About Admiral Nelson
Admiral Nelson is a pub on Dark Ln in Daventry, set beside the canal lock at Braunston at the end of a country lane, where visitors can watch barges pass through. An indoor dining area sits alongside, and the kitchen runs a lunch time menu and a set menu. The food centres on a roast platter for two, with burgers on the list, including a Quorn "chicken" burger on the vegetarian menu. A hot dog loaded with mac and cheese arrives with waffle fries and coleslaw. The pub is open daily, and the bar pours beers, wines and Guinness.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the setting beside the canal lock at Braunston, where diners sit outside with a beer in the sun and watch the barges pass through. The food runs close behind. One reviewer calls the roast platter for two generous and very good quality, and the hot dog loaded with mac and cheese, served with waffle fries and coleslaw, exceptional. A vegetarian reviewer was delighted to find a Quorn chicken burger on the menu, while others praise the burgers, the ham and eggs, the chips and a good pint of Guinness. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and attentive, even when the pub was flat out. The criticisms are few and mild. One reviewer found the wings and onion rings only okay, with a frozen, bought-in feel. Another was seated in a far, empty corner away from the bar and the canal views, and a third said their family was less happy with the food after poor menu choices. One group ate lunch outside by the lock, then moved indoors for another drink.

“Amazing pub/ resteraunt. We have been here multiple times over the past few months. Great atmosphere to sit outside next to the canal in the sun or sit inside for a meal which tasted excellent. Highly recommend.”

“My first visit to this very charming canal side pub. We were 4 adults who ate from the lunch time menu. The delicious food was freshly cooked & well presented. We chose to sit outside by the lock & watch the barges pass through. We then moved inside for another drink before leaving. The staff were both efficient & pleasant. I will look forward to returning here soon.”

“First of all the pub sits at the end of a country lane right next to the canal lock at Braunston, an absolutely lovely location. We hadn’t booked but there we tables available so we opted for inside as it was just too warm outside although there are plenty of umbrellas available. We got a warm welcome from the staff and we were sat down very quickly. The menu(s) come with plenty of choice, it would be odd for anyone not to be able to find something they like because the choice is vast. Food was hot, very tasty and the portion sizes were excellent given the price which I thought was very reasonable. Desert we shared and was equally as tasty. Forgot to mention the Guinness was a good tasting pint! All in all this is a gem of a British pub on a lovely location, with great staff and lovely food.”

“Came in this afternoon for a family birthday meal. We were served by a girl who we think was called Karla, the service was perfect and we were checked multiple times to make sure we were all okay which made us all feel very well looked after. The food was also really good and everyone enjoyed”

“Wonderful place in a lovely location. Service was perfect and prompt, and the food was lovely. My family not so happy with the food but is down to poor menu choices in my opinion. Would come again!”
