About Waterside
Waterside is a pub on Crick Rd in Rugby, set beside the canal and open daily. The carvery anchors the food offer, with roast beef, chicken and turkey served alongside Yorkshire puddings. A standard pub menu runs next to it for those who want something else. Sunday lunch is served, and the carvery has a queue on that day. Tables can be booked online. Inside, the pub has room to move around, order food and sit, and drinks are ordered at a bar with taps and a till. A chocolate lava cookie is on the dessert list.

Customer Review Summary
The carvery is what most reviewers come for, with several praising the portion sizes and choice, one singling out the roast beef as beautiful and another the chocolate lava cookie for dessert. The canal-side setting and outdoor seating also draw praise, and friendly staff feature in several of the happier accounts, though one diner found the Yorkshire puddings flat. Cleanliness is the main recurring complaint. One reviewer describes glasses covered in grease marks and stains, another was handed a glass with a lipstick mark, and two report toilets they found disgusting, one citing the smell. Service is mixed. A few describe unfriendly or disinterested bar staff, drinks slammed down on the table, and a bartender who ignored waiting customers. One family reports being refused a table in a half-empty pub and then told to drink outside in showery weather. Among the positive accounts, a carvery chef played along when a parent called the turkey chicken so a daughter would eat it.

“We arrived early Friday evening after a day on the narrowboat with 4 family’s. We were refused to any tables as apparently they were fully booked even though the pub was half empty and no reserved signs on the tables. We said we’d be happy to sit on separate tables as by now the children were hungry and looking forward to a nice meal but were told they could only cater for 6 people. There was a full hot plate of carvery so this sounded quite suspicious to us. We unfortunately decided we’d have to order a takeaway instead so decided as we’d walked 30mins to get there we’d stop for a drink while waiting for the takeaway. Halfway through the drinks order the same man told us we can’t drink our drinks inside, we’d have to sit outside in the beer garden - judging that we had young children with us and it was showery we felt this was disgraceful to ask us to do. We would’ve not bothered with the order but half the order had already been poured. The bar staff were unfriendly and the guy managing the floor was plain rude. It’s a shame as the pub has missed out on 17 food orders with drinks that night. We even looked at booing in for Sunday lunch but after this experience would never bother. Avoid at all costs.”

“The pub was full of customers and not 1 staff member looked happy or eager to serve. Our drinks were slammed down Infront of us by an older man who clearly didn't want to be there. It made our decision to not eat there alot easier after we saw the toilets. I can't put into words how bad the smell of the toilets were. I took my daughter in to the female toilets and had the shock of my life. Absolutely revolting! Would not recommend”

“Very happy with the carvery last Sunday. Quite a long queue with only one guy working very hard (and sweating very hard) on his own. Lovely hard-working, attentive staff doing their best in a pub that could do with a bit of TLC in the form of a refurbishment.... I still came away happy. The roast beef was beautiful.”

“Visited today was a beautiful carvery, didn’t catch the chefs name but I’m sure he had a northern accent was a really nice guy who went along with my chicken comment as my daughter will only eat chicken if she knew it was turkey she would have never eaten it! So busy even with lack of staff they all smashed it.”

“Greg and the staff across The Waterside pub were so kind and provided excellent service, the food was great, arrived in plenty of time and the carvery had excellent choices and serving size. Dessert and drink choices paired nicely with main course and there was plenty of space across the pub to move around, order food and sit and eat. I really recommend this pub. Thank you so much to Greg and the staff we had a lovely night!”
