About The Oxford
On Whitworth Rd in Rochdale, The Oxford is a pub that opens daily at 662. Most dishes on the menu are offered in small portions, so diners can choose a smaller plate. The cheese and onion pie comes with chips and beans, and the sticky toffee pudding is served with ice cream. Sunday lunch is a seasonal dish of beef, roast potatoes and a huge Yorkshire pudding, and it comes off the menu at the end of April. A specials board runs alongside the main menu, and vegetarian and vegan options are listed. The menu changes from time to time.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the cheese and onion pie, ordered in a small portion by those with lesser appetites and served with chips and beans or a side of gravy. Close behind is the Sunday lunch, praised for a huge Yorkshire pudding, creamy roast potatoes and a side of cauliflower cheese, with beef on the rare side as stated. Also singled out are the porchetta with creamy mash, a chicken tikka kebab on garlic naan, and the sticky toffee pudding, called perfect and absolutely delicious. Diners describe generous portions, friendly staff who stayed polite while rushed off their feet, and a clean, relaxed room with outdoor seating. Several mention vegetarian and vegan choice and good value. The complaints are small: one found the club sandwich short on chicken and bacon, another thought beer a bit dear, and one called desserts expensive after a creme brulee arrived in a deep cup with barely any topping. One reviewer says the pub was busy enough that weekend booking is recommended.

“My husband and I had a fabulous lunch here today. We wanted to make the most of the weather so sat in the lovely outside area. For a Monday lunchtime, the place was very busy and the staff were rushed off their feet but remained polite, professional and efficient throughout. The food was absolutely delicious! I was also impressed by the variety of vegetarian/vegan options. Would highly recommend 😊.”

“Not your average pub food - quality in-house specialities, really good menu, generous portions, staff friendly and helpful. Food quality and choice (including specials) was excellent. More than worth a visit, I've often paid more for less elsewhere so it was well worth the visit, and we will return for sure.”

“Long awaited catchup with an ex colleague as I took early retirement at Christmas Pub was very busy, recommend booking on weekends and Friday night. Our waitress Diane was very welcoming and friendly, explaining the specials board and taking our drinks orders before returning for the food order. We had the famous cheese and onion pie, chips, beans and a side order of gravy, and the chicken tikka kebab, marinated chicken tikka chargrilled, on a giant garlic nan bread, salad, mint raita, medium curry sauce, and fresh coriander. Food came quickly, especially as they were very busy ,generous portions, and was delicious as Diane had promised. We didn't have room for dessert, but after several drinks, vowed to return the next time we have a catch up”

“Excellent Michelin star quality sunday lunch. Atmosphere and staff all lovely. The lunch is only £12 for smaller size and it is regular size by normal standards. We added a side of cauliflower cheese which was delicious. Huge yorkshire pudding, lovely vegetables, roast potatoes, which i normally never like or eat, we're creamy and delicious. Beef is on the rare side as stated. The staff were very pleasant and gracious. We couldn't fault the Sunday lunch, which disappears from the menu for the summer at the end of April. We would revisit often except for being 2 hours drive away. Deserts are £8, I think expensive and the creme brulle was in a deep cup with barely any topping, so just avoid that or check first. Cannot praise more highly.”
