Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return for the Sunday roast, especially the beef dinner with thick slices and its own pot of cauliflower cheese. Homemade cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding come up close behind, along with a good choice of beers, including a Hells lager. Staff are called friendly. One diner found service inattentive on a quiet Saturday evening, having to get up to ask for drinks, food and the dessert menu.

“Excellent food and a huge improvement under the new ownership I thought it was worth updating my review of the Cock and Magpie, having visited for the first time since the new owners took over. Firstly, the difference in the quality of food is night and day. The food was absolutely excellent, made with good-quality ingredients and served in good time. We also had a homemade dessert, which was equally impressive and represented excellent value for money. On the strength of the food alone, I would absolutely recommend visiting and will certainly be returning. It was a shame, however, to see the pub so quiet on a Saturday evening. At one point, around 8pm, my wife and I were the only customers, which is disappointing considering what the pub now has to offer. The only reason I’ve held back from giving five stars is the level of service, which I think could be improved with a little more attention to detail. Despite the pub being relatively quiet, there appeared to be plenty of staff, who seemed to spend quite a bit of time gathered together chatting. Having run a business myself, I completely understand how this can happen during quieter periods, but we found ourselves having to get up to ask for drinks, order food and request the dessert menu. Simple things such as checking back shortly after serving food, clearing plates promptly and being attentive to customers without them having to ask would make a real difference. These are fairly basic expectations when dining out, particularly when a venue isn’t busy. I don’t want this to come across as overly negative, as the staff were perfectly friendly whenever we spoke to them, and we genuinely enjoyed our evening. It’s simply an area where I think a little more focus could really elevate the overall experience. Ultimately, the new owners have clearly made a fantastic improvement to the food offering, and I genuinely hope the pub becomes busier as a result. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try, and we’ll certainly be back. Hopefully, next time I’ll have every reason to increase my rating to five stars!”

“Had a great Sunday roast here! I had the beef dinner and really enjoyed it. The homemade cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding were really nice too. The staff were friendly, the pub has a nice atmosphere, and there’s a great choice of beers. All in all, a really nice place for a Sunday roast. We’ll definitely be back!”

“What a Sunday roast 🤤 Everything on the plate was so good. Really fresh ingredients, thick slices of beef, everything properly seasoned and plenty of it. They come with their own pot of cauliflower cheese! We were absolutely stuffed. I enjoyed a Hells lager with mine. The pub is lovely and cosy and staff were really friendly and attentive. Unbelievable food, I can't wait to go back”
