About The Old Guinea
The Old Guinea is an Italian restaurant on Crossoaks Ln in Potters Bar, set in the village of Ridge in a venue dating to 1826. The country pub setting includes an open fire, and the building looks out over fields and countryside, with a balcony table overlooking the fields. The kitchen makes homemade pizzas and fresh pasta alongside mains like chicken scallopine, and the menu has choices for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Homemade desserts include tiramisu. The bar pours craft ales, cocktails and wines, and barista-made coffee is also on offer. Dogs are welcome in the bar. The restaurant has been family-owned since 2011.

Customer Review Summary
The countryside view over green fields, especially from the garden or a balcony table, is what reviewers raise most, and many describe sitting outside on a warm day. Close behind is the food: diners single out the calzone, the chicken scallopine, a gluten-free vegan cheese pizza and the sticky toffee pudding, with tiramisu and cheesecake also mentioned. Service is repeatedly called helpful and attentive, and several celebrated birthdays or a graduation here. Reviewers note it fills quickly on weekends, and a few suggest booking ahead. The sharpest complaints come from two reviewers. One found the pizza and plain salad dry and the service slow. Another described calamari of only four small pieces, sea bass with skin that was not crisp, and a burnt chicken dish from the kids' menu, plus no acknowledgement of a birthday booked a day earlier. A reviewer who arrived on a Saturday without a booking found no outside seating, yet still praised the calzone.

“Just wonderful in every way! Food, service, setting.. This place has it all. Such a perfect choice for weekend brunch or lunch. I really enjoyed my GF vegan cheese pizza , my husband loves the chicken main, and the desserts were yummy too. The menu is extensive so there is something for everyone. Reservations necessary as it gets really busy on weekends. There is a Parking lot for the restaurant right nextdoor.”

“Updated: Been here before and it's easy to see why we keep coming back, that modernised country pub setting with the open fire and rural views never gets old. This time we turned up on a Saturday without booking, which in hindsight wasn't the smartest move, no outside seating available and the car park was packed. Despite that, the service stayed great throughout, and the food didn't disappoint at all. The calzone was excellent, and the rest of the family were just as happy with what they ordered. Lesson learned on our end: book ahead for weekends. But the food and service make it worth the effort either way. Previous Review: Booked ahead for a Saturday lunch with friends - exactly the right call. The place fills fast when the sun's out, and the balcony table overlooking the fields is the reason why. Stunning setting, very popular with locals, and deservedly so. Food was solid throughout: pizza starter was tasty if a little small, mains - chicken scallopine, fish, chicken breast - all good, with the scallopine the pick of the bunch. Tiramisu and cheesecake rounded things off nicely, coffees too. Around £170 for four with drinks. Not cheap, but fair for a full meal in a setting this good. Book ahead, especially if the forecast looks promising.”

“Really disappointing experience at restaurant. We arrived as a family hoping to enjoy a nice meal together, But noooo the meals we ordered pizza and salad. The pizza was so dry sauce was so dry salad with no sauce just plain green salad. The service was so slow I only recommend is just go there drink or drink coffee be your friends or family. The view from outside was very nice though..”

“Took my daughter to celebrate her graduation. The table was outside with a stunning view. The place was rammed on a Monday night! All the staff were brilliant and the food was excellent. 10/10!!”

“Well , from the start was not great , I book a table day before for a Birthday, they didn’t do nothing to make her feel special on her birthday , the waitress had not idea about the food menu , The food was not good The calamari 4 piece's for over £10 The prawn was only 4 pieces really small with crazy amounts of tomato sauce.. Disappointing . The fish sea bass didn’t have a crispy skin , looks like was steam with the skin on , Skin hanging from the fish ,the plate needs a lot of improvement. The flavours didn’t come together . ( dry tomato not good there ) Salty and sweet , not for me ! And on top of that my baby girl had a kids menu , and the chicken came burnt, how can a chef send a burnt chicken to a kid I told them a day before about the birthday. Anyway great countryside and beautiful view, That all …. So sorry to be strongly honest About my experience, I hope they can make people feel especial on their Birthday and improve their food.”
