About Barracuda

Barracuda is an Italian restaurant and cafe on High Street in Bushey, with an air-conditioned dining room and a separate seating area that extends beyond the main space. Table service runs throughout the day, and the menu moves from Italian staples such as pasta, lasagna and calzone to an all-day breakfast offering. The owner greets regulars by name and chats with them between tables, giving the front of house a personal touch. The space combines a restaurant setting with a cafe format, serving Mediterranean-leaning dishes across both menus. Barracuda operates as a sit-in restaurant with the dual role of Italian dining and daytime cafe service on the same site.

Customer Review Summary

Most regulars return for the all-day breakfasts and generous pasta portions, with several long-time diners calling it their go-to for a reliable, reasonably priced meal and warm, friendly service. Others are less convinced, describing the calzone and lasagna as reheated and mediocre, and one reviewer reports overcooked poached eggs, an insipid hollandaise, and a sour Americano, leaving them doubtful the kitchen pushes beyond a basic local café experience.

“September '25 update: a very decent Greek Salad and much improved coffee in their lovely extension. The most positive things I can say is that; this is local to us, the service is pleasant, it's inexpensive and by eating there, we avoid washing/clearing up at home. In fairness, I've not dined there in the evening but it is unlikely that this turns into a place that actually tries, gastronomically speaking. For example, if they will insist on pre-cooking their poached eggs (although they appear to be poached direct in water, which is something), then they ought to make sure they're cooked so that the yolk hasn't set. All the eggs on our table were depressingly overdone. The hash brown was removed from the freezer with an artful flourish and then heated/fried to absolute, bland lazy-Sunday-night-meal perfection. The hollandaise sauce was insipid. I didn't bother ordering coffee as last time, it (a Black Americano) was acrid and sour tasting. This is a venue that could host a good local restaurant, but achieves nothing more than being an inexpensive human fuelling station that does not pose a health-risk to its customers. Ultimately though, we customers are to blame. If we keep frequenting such venues they will not be encouraged to change.”

“We love Barracuda, it's a regular for us because it's a lovely venue, the service is friendly and accommodating, the food is excellent, and the bill is always reasonable. Thanks for having us (again!).”

“Respectfully, the food here was really mediocre and I wasn’t expecting that after paying 35 pounds for two mains. Both the calzone and the lasagna didn’t taste that good.. they were edible and safe to eat but the quality was lacking. The calzone also looked and tasted like it hadn’t been made from scratch and was maybe just reheated.. I’m not saying I’m an expert on Italian food but I’ve definitely had better food than this for the same price and even cheaper. That said, the service was fine, and the restaurant itself has nice tables and chairs. My only real issue was with the food.”
