About King Chef
King Chef is a Chinese takeaway at 58B High St in Portsmouth, open in the evenings only. The menu covers a wide range of dishes, with Singapore noodles and lemon chicken alongside a special curry, so one order can mix noodle, chicken and curry. The takeaway opens six days a week and closes on Tuesdays. The rest of the week, it is an evening option for anyone in the area who wants Chinese food, and the breadth of the menu gives a group or a family room to choose different dishes from the same kitchen.

Customer Review Summary
Reviews split sharply, and the most repeated complaint is delivery: food arriving late and stone cold, with several describing waits well over an hour, one blaming a multiple drop delivery through Just Eat. Diners also report specific food faults, including grey, bad-smelling Beef Fried Rice, undercooked chicken ball batter, burnt salt and pepper chicken seasoning, a dry chow mein, and flat, empty spring rolls. One reviewer says a refund request was met with rudeness and a redirect to Just Eat, and another says staff asked whether the food had been eaten before agreeing to collect it. On the positive side, Singapore fried rice and Singapore noodles are each singled out as good, and one reviewer who asked for really hot chillies got dishes that arrived fiery and delicious. Others praise an authentic taste rather than generic Chinese takeaway flavour, and generous portions. One diner who ordered despite the negative reviews received food that was warm, an early delivery, and a kind driver.

“That was the worst Chinese I’ve ever had. Chicken balls batter was undercooked. Burnt salt and pepper chicken seasoning. Somehow have undercooked chips but burnt seasoning on them. BBQ sauce was watery and tasted of nothing. For that price, shocking! I wish I looked at google reviews before just eats as somehow they have 5 stars on just eat? Mental.”

“I placed my order before I actually looked online to see the reviews, after seeing all the negative reviews started to regret placing the order however I was pleasantly surprised, the food was delicious and warm and the delivery was early and the man that delivered the food was very kind”

“I was skeptical to order as I believed all the Chinese takeaways in cosham are wacky because of a poor service I had the last time I ordered food. This was the opposite and it was great. I asked for really hot chillies and the food came like a wild fire and delicious. I am really enjoying this food and I couldn’t wait to finish before I review. This was really good and they’ve definitively got themselves a hot and spicy customer 🔥🔥🔥😋”

“Shocking!!! Ordered through Just eat....never again. Order took more then 2 hrs to arrive and the food quality was NOT fantastic. Obviously my order was apart of a multiple drop delivery and almost certainly the last drop. The food was next to cold on arrival. I will not order from this restaurant through just eat again and probably not the restaurant either. If there was a 1/8 star rating that would be sufficient”
