About Allports Fish & Chips Porthmadog
Allports Fish & Chips Porthmadog is a fish and chips takeaway at 38 Snowdon St in Porthmadog, run as a counter-serve shop. Fish and chips are cooked fresh to order, with cod and hake both on the menu. The kitchen keeps separate fryers for pork, fish and chips, and the fish batter is made without beer, so the frying setup is clear for anyone who needs to know what shares the oil. Battered potato scallops sit alongside the fish, and curry sauce and mushy peas are available as sides. The shop is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Chips are the most frequent draw, described as crispy outside with a fluffy middle, not greasy, and often paired with curry sauce. Fish comes close behind, with cod, haddock and hake all mentioned, and the batter called crunchy and not too thick. Potato scallops, the battered potato kind, also earn praise, and several reviewers describe food cooked fresh to order with very quick service. One reviewer found the large portions smaller than elsewhere. The complaints are specific. One reviewer received undercooked sausages, was not offered the difference back, and reports staff laughing in Welsh as they left. Another took home chips that were not cooked properly, was told it was the potatoes, got a replacement, and found the chips and sausage no better at home. A reviewer looking for halal options describes being shown separate fryers for pork, fish and chips, and being told the batter contains no beer or alcohol.

“Really impressed with Allports Fish & Chips! The food was fresh, hot and delicious, but what stood out most was the excellent customer service. As someone who looks for halal options, I asked about how the fish and chips were prepared. The lovely girl working there - Trinity - was incredibly helpful and actually took the time to show me the separate fryers for the pork, fish and chips. She also confirmed that the fish batter is completely free from beer/alcohol, which gave me real peace of mind. I really appreciated her taking the time to explain everything rather than simply saying it was okay. That level of transparency and customer care makes a huge difference. The fish and chips were great, and the service was even better. A special thank you to the girl who took the time to show me everything — she was genuinely lovely and helpful. Would definitely recommend Allports and will happily come back again!”

“Excellent fish & chips. Very efficient service, and all cooked fresh to order. Superb chips (crunchy bits). Crunchy batter, and not too thick. It’s great that they offer hake as well as cod. A top place.”

“Absolutely delicious chips, fish and scallops. Also not phased by a big group of us decending on them!”
