About Rose & Crown
Rose & Crown is a pub with rooms on Heol-Y-Capel in Porthcawl, set in a Saxon conservation area and overlooking the village green. A walk across the green leads to the door, and inside the building has low beams, fireplaces and fairy lights. The kitchen works with Welsh suppliers where possible and serves pub food, including a mixed grill with a cheesy mushroom sauce and a chicken, ham and leek pie. Brains is the beer served at the bar. Dogs are welcome in part of the pub. Parking is limited, as narrow streets and walls make it tricky.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the mixed grill, with the cheesy mushroom sauce singled out as an accompaniment, and the burgers are close behind. Lamb shank, lasagne, a curry, pan fried chicken with hand cooked chips, and a chicken, ham and leek pie also earn mentions, along with sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Reviewers describe low beams, fireplaces and fairy lights, and repeatedly call the staff friendly and helpful. Several say large tables of 10 and 11 were served together and everyone left happy, and a few call the prices reasonable. The recurring drawback is parking, which reviewers describe as limited and tricky because of narrow streets and walls. One reviewer found the children's mac and cheese a small portion and added cheese garlic bread and onion rings. Another sat inside with a dog one day, then was told the next day that the same room was not dog friendly, and left to eat elsewhere. One guest who stayed overnight noted the room came with a good quality tea and coffee tray.

“I asked my taxi driver if the food was good and he said it was. He wasn't wrong. Staff were prepared to help with any issues about ingredients. There was a warm and friendly atmosphere. As others mentioned, parking is an issue so I was pleased that I hadn't driven myself.”

“Gorgeous country pub with wonderful traditional features. Low beams, fireplace and twinkling fairy lights make the atmosphere in this pub even more appealing. Lovely warm welcome from staff, very attentive and helpful. Food was wonderful, 2 of us had the lamb shank which was cooked beautifully and well presented whilst the other 2 had the burgers which they thoroughly enjoyed.Service was quick considering how busy they were. Two of us ate again there the following evening. Husband had the lasagne and absolutely loved it. Said it was the nicest he has ever had .I had the curry which was wonderful, very scrumptious. Food is very reasonably priced as are the drinks. We would highly recommend. Also stayed for 2 nights, accommodation fab. Comfortable, very clean , good quality tea/coffee tray and bathroom products.Well maintained . Have stayed 4 times previously and will definitely return.”

“On Holiday in Wales, First time visiting. Was with my Fiancé and my son (14) The food was excellent quality, my son absolutely loved his burger and he also had room for desert (Sticky Toffee Pudding) I myself had the mixed grill, which to be honest is probably the best mixed grill ive ever had (Kudus to the chefs) and my partner had a sirloin steak. All food was cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and really helpful. We also had a 40% off voucher which made the price even better. I felt like for such a busy place (especially with the 40% off offer) there didn't seem many staff, but we didnt wait any longer too get served (Staff deserve credit for such hard work) If im ever in this area again I would definitely visit again in a heart beat. I was lucky to get parked because parking is very limited ( unless I missed a car park out back)”
