Customer Review Summary

Moules marinière is the dish reviewers raise most, and opinions split sharply. One diner called a bucket of mussels in creamy white wine sauce delicious, while another found them tiny with half unopened, and a group reported them arriving with nothing for hands or shells and the sides coming later. Close behind, the steak earns praise, including a bavette steak frite on the set menu, alongside scallops in burnt lemon butter, half grilled lobster with garlic butter and frites, and a Sunday roast chicken that fell off the bone. French onion soup is called excellent by one regular and not French by another, and the houmous and crème brûlée also get nods. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and attentive, though one reviewer felt rushed. The recurring complaint is slow, disjointed service: delayed mains, drinks that never arrived, a diabetic guest left without food despite repeated requests, and a kitchen that seemed keen to stop cooking around nine. In one case the meal and the missing drinks were taken off the bill.

“A lovely evening with very pheasant staff, and absolutely bustling with atmosphere even for a Tuesday evening so you'd better book like we did!”

“I booked a table before going but you don't have to make a reservation, obviously depending on how busy they are on the day you might have to wait for a table. I ordered the scallops for starters, they were so good and the burnt lemon butter were amazing. They came on their own shell which was amazing. Half grilled Lobster, garlic butter and frites was the main. The lobster was very nice and the garlic butter on the lobster was very good. I would make a suggestion to maybe send a container with extra garlic butter so it could be used on the meat from the claw. I ordered a Crème Brûlée which was very nice and passed the crunch/crack test. I ordered a coffee which came with 2 miniature Crème Brûlée Tartlets, they were ok. Overall a great experience Thank you to all the team.”

“This restaurant is really special. We've been coming here for 10 years and loving it, but they seen to have pushed the food up to an even higher level. A great set menu at very good value too, including their excellent French onion soup and now with bavette steak frite included. Congratulations to the chefs. The staff are always so nice and the location can't be beaten.”

“We had a large group and managed to get in without a booking. The food was amazing, one of the best Sunday roasts i have had, especially the chicken as it just fell off the bone (unfortunately I forgot to take a photo) there is parking on site which is paying and display”

“The food that actually arrived, that I had, was lovely. Though I had to leave because 2 hours wasn't enough time to have more than a starter. We were a booking of 6 on time with a diabetic. There was a communication fail whereby some of us ordered starters as mains and some ordered mains but this was not understood. When our diabetic diner was left without food on 3 separate occassions we asked for bread or something for her and were told yes, but that never came. Mains did arrive, an hour and 20 mins into our booking. The French onion soup was not a French onion soup. I don't argue that onions were in it, but whilst titled and presented as a French bistro, this was decidedly not French cuisine. That said, the houmous was fabulous. When the mains came, 2 of our diners had ordered moules mariniere and they came but with nothing for hands and nowhere to put shells and the sides came 10 mins later. It was a bit of a shambles. That said, the place was clean and tidy. The cutlery was clean and we opted to sit on cushioned seating. It didn't seem overly busy and was a Wednesday during a heatwave and whilst we were comfortable, I don't imagine the hot kitchen was.”
