About Fox & Hounds
On Thorpe Rd in Peterborough, Fox & Hounds is a pub and restaurant with a black and white beamed Tudor facade fronting the building. Inside, a menu of around 180 dishes runs from bread and oil and olives to crispy salt and pepper squid, creamy garlic mushrooms, and Korean BBQ chicken strips, with vegetarian and vegan options included. Reservations are recommended. The pub opens daily, and a step-free entrance allows access for visitors with mobility needs. Outdoor seating gives another option for eating outside, and dogs are welcome at the table. Free Wi-Fi is available for those settled in for a while. A festive menu adds turkey dinner during the season, and the Eton mess dessert arrives plated rather than served in a bowl. Parking near the pub is limited, so guests arriving by car should plan accordingly.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the festive menu, especially the turkey dinner, which multiple reviewers single out as delicious alongside the vegetarian Wellington and festive burger; other visits highlight the halloumi fries, a shared platter for three, and the lasagna with "perfect crispy fluffy" chips. Close behind these highs sits a persistent staffing problem: several parties describe being "run off their feet," waits of almost an hour for food, and drinks or condiments (chardonnay, lemonade, ketchup) that simply weren't available. Food consistency is also uneven, with reports of overcooked steak, a dry mushroom and ale pie, missing crab meat in a crab salad, and portions called small for the price. A recurring low point is the raspberry Eton mess, which more than one party describes as looking "like a cat had been sick on a plate" and sent back without apology. When things do go wrong, some resolutions are noted plainly, such as one diner's pie being taken off the bill with apologies and another's incorrect starter left uncharged.

“Came in for a meal with my mum. Loved the food - we had very good service from Iain, he had a lovely sense of humour, couldn't of been more helpful. Made the evening so good.”

“Some of the Staff were lovely,6 of us went to celebrate special birthdays, and two of the group had just had a horrendous year of cancer and hospital treatments and this was the only time we could get together as a group. I don’t usually complain i just accept, but in this instance, they got one of the starters wrong, we told them, nothing happened, meals were mediocre but not really presented to a good standard. Then we ordered puddings, 2 got a fairly decent pudding the other 4 ordered Eton mess, which was immediately sent back, it honestly looked like a cat had been sick on a plate 4 times, but the worst thing was no-one came to apologise or rectify the problem. Obviously we didn’t pay for the 1 wrong starter and 4 disgusting puddings, it’s just the lack of management relationship. The person in charge should have come straight to the table and sorted out the issue. Head office should be aware that this did not happen.Would not recommend this establishment to anyone. Don’t waste your money…..”

“Firstly the service, waitress seemed to have an attitude, very uninformed, was more concerned about the time her shift finished, we asked for the specials menu, asked if the crab was fresh, was told it was frozen, thawed then cooked. My husband ordered a crab salad, when it arrived, there was no crab meat at all, no apology, just told that’s how it comes, nobody explained the lack of crab, there was just some salmon, very poor quality. The specials main of seafood there was only one left! Actually glad I didn’t get one, as it looked very poor for £28. The scollops were so small, everything looked dry. I ordered the soft shell crab burger, tasteless! When the dessert was ordered, Raspberry Eaton mess, WHAT A MESS! It looked like cat vomit on a plate, YES A PLATE! This was refused, and taken away, totally disgusting, our friends refused theirs as well, no apology, just told that’s how this is how we serve it! £8.50 for two spoons of slop on a plate. We live locally, we try to support our local restaurants, sadly we will NEVER eat here again AVOID THIS CHAIN TOTAL RIP OFF. Before we left, a member of staff was heard offering extra beef to a customer as it was the end of the day! Tut tut. Treat all your guests the same. Will NEVER RETURN 😡😡 This was a birthday treat for three out of the six of our party”

“Unfortunately didn't actually get to eat, shambles right from the start. Looked on the Green King site to check menu before booking, the one page menu handed to us completely different. Ordered drinks, first choice not available …”
