  “We regularly have drinks and nibbles at Hickman’s but hosted our son’s christening in the green room over the weekend. The buffet was delicious and plenty of it, plus the drinks and atmosphere were great. Shout out to Kim who was fantastic helping us to organise the event!”

  “We visited as a group of eight, and my expectations weren’t particularly high based on what I’d heard from others who had already been\. The positives: it’s a lovely, modern restaurant with friendly, attentive waiting staff\. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing\. Although the menu isn’t extensive, the dishes felt very basic and lacked imagination, flavour, and excitement\. For a restaurant charging these prices, I expected far more\. Having dined at several Mediterranean restaurants with similar pricing, you generally receive much better quality, more generous portions, and far more memorable flavours\. The prices simply don’t reflect the standard of the food being served\. Most of our party agreed that we wouldn’t be in a hurry to return, and several said they wouldn’t go back at all\. In summary, it’s all style and very little substance – a classic case of **“fur coat and no knickekrs”

  “First time here, what a great place and atmosphere, service, staff and food. Went there as a 4, drinks order taken promptly with advice on the beers they have, so that helped choices. Starters were great, sardines, tasted lovely. Mains superb, lamb dish for 2 of us, a gammon dish and half a chicken, but we had to pay about £5 to add a salad with the chicken which seemed odd. More drinks, friendly chats with lovely waitresses. Would recommend and we will return. Great quality food.”

  “My partner & I ate at this restaurant today, by recommendation. The Blockbuster lunch menu is exceptionally good value. The portions were more than sufficient & very tasty. My partner had the pie of the day, beef & red wine & it was full of flavour. The staff were helpful and very friendly. We will definitely return. Thank you.”

  “Visited Hickman's for The 1st Time 21st January 2026, Definitely won't be The Last! Originally Reserved a Table for 6:30pm, we were Running Late, Rang To Let them know, Reservation was Promptly Updated, Thanks to Rhys, He Was more than Accommodating, he was Fully aware of Dietery Requirements on The Table & informed Us of The Daily Offers. It was Steak Night! I Ordered The Poultry Pie (Chicken, Duck & Turkey), served With Creamy Mash & Seasonal Vegetables & also Ordered Rump Steak (Medium Rare), Chips & Mushroom. Both very Delicious! Beautiful Place, Open Plan Kitchen & A Very Cozy, Welcoming & Romantic Atmosphere.”

  “Hickman’s Bar and Restaurant has brought new life to a previously derelict building in Penarth, and it’s already a standout spot in the area. Opened just a few months ago, this venue offers a unique experience spread across three levels: a ground-floor restaurant, two upper-level bar spaces, and an outdoor terrace on the first floor. The interior is modern and inviting, with plenty of natural light flooding in through large windows. The ambiance feels fresh and lively, making it a great spot for dining or drinks. Food and Drinks: The blood orange negroni is an excellent choice for a drink—balanced and refreshing. For starters, the pork belly is a must-try, though it’s rich enough to share. The onion paste dots on the dish are incredibly intense and flavorful, adding a perfect touch. The clam chowder was decent but could use a bit more flavor to stand out. For mains, the roasted lamb rump with Jerusalem artichokes and crispy capers was a delight. The lamb was cooked to perfection, but the real star was the roasted artichokes—bursting with flavor and elevating the dish to another level. Atmosphere and Service: The service was attentive and efficient, even on a busy Saturday night. It’s worth noting that the restaurant gets crowded, so booking ahead is essential as walk-ins may not secure a table. The bars were equally packed, with people enjoying the terrace outdoors despite the chilly 5°C weather, which speaks to the charm of the place. Hickman’s is a fantastic addition to Penarth, offering great food, excellent drinks, and a vibrant atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit for both locals and visitors.”

  “I was only visiting for the weekend. Had drinks on the Saturday evening on the terrace nice atmosphere. Returned on the Sunday for lunch, food was average starter nice Sunday lunch wasn’t as good as I was expecting. But I am used to eating in city restaurant’s where more it put into dining experience. On entering there’s a few steps so wasn’t able to take my granddaughters pushchair in and wasn’t offered alternative access.”

  “Great new restaurant in Penarth town centre. The service was excellent. I really enjoyed the roast dinners served in a bowl with lashings of gravy. I had Ox cheeks. The restaurant is well set out with modern decor.”

  “First time on the restaurant, didn't disappointed me. Beautiful deco, nice staff. The food was truly delicious, the lamb raggu was exceptional, nice desserts too, really good price lunch menu 25£, 3 course meal. The only thing I can say that needs to improve it's the toilets cleaning, the vent it's really dirty and the floor need a good brush. But it's a good choice to try.”

  “We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Hickmans! The steak was cooked perfectly—juicy, tender, and full of flavor. I had strawberry cheesecake for dessert, which tasted just like something homemade (in the best way!). The staff were brilliant - friendly and on top of everything without being overbearing. And the ambience is just right too: stylish and comfortable. Already looking forward to my next visit!”
