Quick info
About Maypole Granary
On Middleton Rd in Oldham, Maypole Granary is a sandwich shop and takeaway serving toasties, panini's, jacket potatoes, and warm desserts alongside coffees, tea, hot chocolate, and soft drinks. Breakfast includes poached eggs and hashbrooks alongside hashbrowns, and homemade daily specials such as a cheese pie and a bbq chicken dish rotate through the day. Afternoon tea is offered with the spread delivered on cake stands, giving the format a bit more occasion than a standard takeaway order. Only four seats are available for eating in, so most orders go out for collection or delivery, and telephone orders are taken for those eating off site. It's a walk-in shop with no booking system, and it opens daily for daytime trade only.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply on this small Royton cafe, and breakfast sandwiches are the most frequent draw, with one group enjoying them and the sandwiches credited even in a two-star account. Close behind, the afternoon tea earns praise: one reviewer had it delivered to the house and said guests took the food for fresh and homemade, while another ordered six cake stands for a volunteer event. Others mention homemade daily specials, including a cheese pie, a bbq chicken dish and an occasional gyros day, and the women running it are described as lovely and kind. The complaints are specific and recurring. Several reviewers report wrong or poor breakfast orders: eggs on muffins instead of toast, boiled eggs when runny ones were requested, cold hashbrowns, and soggy ones. One describes a steak Canadian that tasted like cheap kebab meat and made them feel sick. Another reviewer describes a long wait for two sandwiches, with a later customer served first and no apology, and says they will go elsewhere.

“The service here it’s absolutely atrocious And the two older ladies are horrible, arrogant and nasty and don’t listen to customers. I ordered two from the breakfast menu and they were put on muffins instead of toast And they do not listen to your orders And I have had a few wrong orders I would probably try and avoid this place in the future as it’s overpriced and the food is not very good”

“I can't recommend. I ordered a pretty straight forward order and what I received has to be the worst effort of porched eggs and hashbrowns I have ever seen. I asked for runny egg yorks I got boiled eggs. The hashbrowns where cold tasted like cardboard. If you want a decent meal to start your day maybe try somewhere else”

“Ordered afternoon tea yesterday for our Celebrate and Engage Event on Royton Linear Park. 6 cake stands all beautifully put together with so much food! They were wonderful and very well received by our volunteers and others who shared too. Thank you for helping to give our volunteers a well deserved treat!”
