About Cafe East Oldham
Cafe East Oldham is a Punjabi restaurant in Oldham, at 13 Yorkshire St, that also serves other types of food alongside its Punjabi cooking. Biryani and nihari come as mains, and Chicken Kakrvi opens the meal as a starter. A buffet is on offer, including a special buffet during Ramadan. The drinks list includes mocktails made by a bartender, so there is a non-alcoholic option beyond the usual soft drinks. The kitchen tailors spice levels to different tastes.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the Punjabi cooking, with the biryani and nihari called spectacular, the Chicken Kakrvi starter likened to a parmesan dish with roast potatoes, and the Masala Chips and Samosa Chaat named as personal favourites. The mixed grill platter and a buffet with a great variety of fresh food also draw praise. One reviewer says spice levels are tailored to everyone, and another says it is not the typical greasy, oily curry place. Portions are big enough that one diner never reached dessert. The owner and staff come up repeatedly as friendly and attentive, checking on tables and offering suggestions on food and drinks. The caveats are modest. Service can be a little slow when busy, one regular was disappointed that the bartender was not in to make the mocktails, and one review describes a very long wait for mains. Reviewers also describe the owner chatting at the table over complimentary chocolates, bringing out a cake for a birthday, and staying open for two friends who had travelled an hour.

“BEST RESTAURANT EVER. The service was amazing we waited 3 hours for our mains. I went with the Rosul family where one of them stated their peppercorn sauce looked like poo. I have only realised this after almost 2 years as I came here in december 2024. My uncle however rated it 7/10. My cousin would love to use the hall to get married in, in the future.”

“I had a really lovely experience at the buffet. The boss was very welcoming and professional, making sure everything was running smoothly and that guests felt comfortable. It was clear that they genuinely care about their customers and take pride in the service they provide. The staff were all so friendly, polite, and attentive. They were quick to help, always smiling, and made sure the food areas were clean and well stocked. Nothing felt like too much trouble for them, and they created such a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The buffet itself was excellent, with a great variety of fresh and tasty food. Everything was presented nicely and regularly topped up. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I would definitely recommend it to others. I’ll happily be coming back again shain also brung out a cake for my little sisters birthday!!”

“Visited today with my friend. They were about to close but when I mentioned me and my friend travelled from an hour away. The owner said they will stay open for us. We ordered the mixed grill platter and it was delicious. Excellent customer service and absolutely beautiful decor and seating. Will definitely be visiting again.”

“Awsome experience with wonderful food. Would definitely recommend. Thanks 😊. Update: Been back a few times now and the food and service is still great as always. Also, I've just been reading some 1 star reviews and 5 in a row are from the same Rosul family!!! That's just insane. Fair enough, if you didn't like it give the 1 star but you don't need every member of the party/family to try and destroy a business. It's a shame that some people to don't realise the consequences on the business because of their poor actions.”

“I went to Cafe East last week. There was a group of 6 of us and I have to say all 6 of us were very impressed! The service was exceptional. The waiters constantly made sure that we were okay and checked to see if we needed anything at all throughout our time there. The food and drinks were great. Personal favourites of mine were the Masala Chips and the Samosa Chaat. Delicious. To top our great experience there, the owner had come to us at the end and we had a lovely chat over some complimentary festive chocolates. Overall, we cannot fault our experience there. Will definitely be visiting again. :)”
