Quick info
About Khyber Kebabs
Khyber Kebabs is a kebab shop in Oldham, set in a small basement space at 172 Crossbank Way. The menu centres on chapli kebabs, and the chapli kebab deal comes with a naan. Seekh kebab, Peshawari kebab and mixed grill sit alongside them, and the long Peshawari naan is served with salad and mint chutney. Orders are placed at the counter, and the shop is walk-in. Chicken karahi and lamb karahi round out the range, and both can be ordered by the half kilo. The karahi is help-yourself rather than brought to the table, and it comes in takeaway-style tubs.

Customer Review Summary
Chapli kebabs are the clear draw at Khyber Kebabs, described as juicy, succulent and soft, with one reviewer preferring them to a rival's and another calling them addictive. Close behind are the karhais, where reviewers praise the fresh, authentic spicing and suggest the lamb for anyone who likes nihari, while a few also mention the Peshawari kebab, the long Peshawari naan and the mixed grill. Service and consistency draw the sharpest complaints. One reviewer says the counter staff kept repeating the wrong order and left out a naan included in a chapli deal, another found the staff rude and abrupt, and a third says the chefs also serve and can seem fed up. Two reviewers say the karhai portion fell short, one describing a half chicken karhai that held five wings. Others report dry seekh kebabs, undercooked chicken and under-seasoned dishes needing salt. One reviewer notes that the space is tight for ordering at the counter.

“The food was not good at all. It used to be very good two years ago. I went there last week and ordered chicken karahi and chapli kebabs. Both of these dishes lacked seasoning to the point that I had to ask for salt separately. The chicken portion itself was really small. The service was disappointing as well, usually at these places the karahi is served on the table but this was a help yourself scenario. The guy at the counter kept repeating the wrong order even upon correcting him time and time again. The deal ordered from the menu was, 2 chapli kebabs which already included a naan. However, the guy at the counter kept insisting that he would only serve us 2 chapli kebabs without the naan. Plus wrongly told us that one naan would already be a part of karahi.... which it wasn't. I am never going here again.”

“Ordered - 1/2 chicken korahi , told it would feed 2/3 people & for £17 we thought this sounded about right The korahi was in the standard sized take away tub , filled with 5 chicken wings , definitely not 1/2 a chicken!! Misleading and not worth £17.00 , wouldn’t pay more than £7 for a bowl of chicken wings in a curry sauce * mixed grill was actually really nice”

“A unique taste, you will never find it anywhere else in Manchester. Freshly made Peshawari Kebab. Taste good. And price affordable. For a special portion, u only pay £13. Which includes 3 kebabs and one big nan with salad and sauce. For drink, u have to pay extra. It's worth a try.”
