About Caffè Grande Abaco
Caffè Grande Abaco is a coffee shop, wine bar and delicatessen at 73A High St in Uppermill, Saddleworth, Oldham, spread across multiple floors. The coffee is its own blend, and the food runs from breakfast and light lunches to dinner, with pizza and a mixed meat and cheese board served with crackers, chutneys and fruit. The drinks list covers European beers and ales, wines and classic cocktails. Tables can be booked in advance, and seating continues upstairs when downstairs is full. The top floor can be hired for private celebrations, and a meeting room with a projector screen suits corporate and conference bookings. Dogs are welcome, and live music acts play in the venue.

Customer Review Summary
The main complaints are about service and value. One table waited far past the quoted time for pizza because the kitchen forgot the second one, with no apology and no free drink offered. Others call drinks and the cheese board pricey for the size, and one found the tzatziki watery and the food bland. A parent was refused an adult portion of spaghetti Bolognese because the child's portion is for under 12s, and a vegetarian reviewer found several options unavailable. One lost booking ended with the manager apologising twice.

“I wanted Spaghetti Bolognese as an adult meal. Was told you have to be under 12 to get a child's spaghetti cologne. I asked cant I have a double helping and pay for 2? No this isn't possible. So much for keeping the customer happy. This will stop us returning. We asked for a portion of chips with sandwich and meatballs. We were brought loaded chips. Which cost £10 It wasn't very busy but had to wait 35mins. Issy the waitress was very helpful and friendly. (She didn't take our order). The place itself was very nice and the staff friendly.”

“We came here today the lady took us upstairs and she was nice and friendly because there was no room downstairs but we was not bothered. The food was so delicious. My Strawberry milkshake was so delicious. My Mum’s apple juice was amazing. She asked us do you want tapwater? She had good customer service recommend coming here. No restaurant has asked us do you want tapwater before If I could, I’ll give this 100 stars”

“We were warned about a 20-minute delay on food, which was fine and understandable. Half an hour later, one member of staff came to the door with a single pizza, looking confused, and didn’t even bring it to the table. Nobody explained what was going on, so we were left completely in the dark. It wasn’t until we asked a waitress almost 50 minutes in that we found out the kitchen had simply forgotten to put our second pizza in the oven. No apology, no offer to make it right — just total indifference. When the pizzas did arrive, they were fine — nothing special, but decent enough, especially at 2-for-1 prices. We ended up ordering another coke since we’d been there so long, and given everything that had happened, a free one would have been a fair gesture. Instead we were just charged again. For reference, the cokes alone were nearly £5 each, which felt steep even before the wait. The ambience in there was genuinely good, and it’s the main thing (alongside the deal) keeping this from being a worse review. But the service was poor from start to finish — no communication, no accountability, no goodwill. Wouldn’t go out of my way to return.”

“I booked a table for 7 people and a dog the day before family were visiting. When we arrived they had no record of the booking (I did show the girl the telephone log on my phone). The restaurant was very busy and as we had a dog, we needed to be outside...it wasn't looking good. HOWEVER, the girl on front of house spoke to the manager (who came out and apologised) and they rallied round to sort some tables. Some lads offered to move and they managed to get us in. The service and food was then excellent. Only thing was the first singer's speaker was a bit loud and we couldn't talk , however the second act was a much better level and we enjoyed the music whilst still chatting. The food here is superb (although i did wish id gone for a pizza instead of being good with a salad!) and the atmosphere is lovely. Mistakes happen. But it is how the staff deal with it that matters. On the way out the manager (only a young lad) came and apologised once again. They sorted it. The food was awesome and we had a good time. Cant ask for more than that. (Other than writing the booking down 🤣🤣🤣). Will continue to visit and bring family and friends.”
