About Raymond’s
Raymond's is a wine-led small plates restaurant and bar at 8 Stoney St in Nottingham. The team lets guests taste a few wines before choosing a bottle, which gives the wine list a hands-on way in. The menu is tapas style and built for sharing, with courgette with lemon labneh, peas and hot honey, fish crackling, and oysters served with lemon. A private dining room is available for groups and comes with a feasting menu. Reservations are required.

Customer Review Summary
Oysters draw the most repeated praise at Raymond's, served with lemon and tobasco and described as very fresh. Close behind are the fish cracklins, the courgette with labneh and hot honey, the tuna crudo, and the fried chicken and ox cheek. Reviewers also single out the scallops, the Salumi croquettes and a pork dish that melted in the mouth, and many praise the wine list and the staff's willingness to let diners try a few glasses first. Vegetable plates are preferred by some over the lamb belly, and the small plates style suits two to three dishes each. The caveats are mixed. One reviewer found the market fish too salty and the menu overpriced and simple, while another tired of heavily fried potatoes, found the pork unremarkable and the service inattentive, and had to ask for the discretionary service charge to be removed. Another thought the focaccia dry and the Lyon sausage bland. Several suggest booking ahead, and one group praised the private dining room and its feasting menu.

“OVERVIEW Overall, overpriced, simple dishes that could easily be replicated at home. I was not impressed enough to return! PLUS + Walk-in, late lunchtime availability (weekday). + The restaurant had a casual, modern, and airy ambience. NEUTRAL +/- The ‘Market Fish’ (Lemon Sole & Spanish Sausage) was high in quality and fresh. However, the seasoning was overly led by salt. The dish could easily be replicated at home with fried fish topped with minced pepperoni sautéed in a pan. +/- The ‘Courgette, Lemon Labneh, Peas, Hot Honey’ was good in quality and portion size, but was a very simple dish. It could easily be recreated at home by tossing diced courgette and peas in pesto, serving them on a bed of lemon Greek yoghurt, and drizzling with a little honey. +/- At a glance, the other menu items appeared to follow a similar approach: good-quality ingredients, where the dishes appeared to lack depth of flavour and gave the impression that much of the menu could easily be recreated at home. +/- The waiter who took my order was friendly and attentive, taking the time to explain the menu items. However, overall, service varied across the team. Additionally, alternative items should not have been offered as substitutes for unavailable set-menu items without clarifying that set-menu pricing would not apply. +/- A QR-code self-payment option at the table would be a useful addition, given the restaurant’s mainstream nature and busy setting. MINUS - The standard menu was overpriced. However, the ‘Set Friday Lunch Menu’ was reasonably priced. TABLE ORDER Plates: * Market Fish (Lemon Sole & Spanish Sausage) * Courgette, Lemon Labneh, Peas, Hot Honey”

“Been wanting to come here for ages and it was worth the wait. Loved everything, especially enjoyed the Salumi croquettes and fish cracklins. The courgette with Labneh and hot honey was also a highlight. Excellent selection of wines by the glass and outstanding service made the whole experience perfect. Can't wait to return next time I'm in Nottingham”

“We booked for 16 people in the private dining room. Rachel was so helpful in the lead up to the booking. The feasting menu was delicious and plentiful. Hattie served us throughout the evening as was super attentive and friendly. Would 100% recommend booking the room for a group occasion it felt really special.”

“I came here with my vegetarian argumentative uncle. The fish crackling was not bad. It was seasoned heavily and the sauce it came with was very nice. It was like a crispy cracker kind of thing. Not sure where the 'fish' comes into it, nothing about it made me think of fish. I had oysters for the first time ever here. They were very good. Very fresh I believe. They came with lemon and tobasco which really makes a big difference. The pork dish was not bad. It had a typical porky taste to it. It didn't blow me away. I had it with the fried potatoes. The portion was surprisingly large. They were good. A really nice sauce all over them with cheese. But the highly fried nature of them did get tiring. They were not soft at all, just crunch crunch crunch. The cheesecake dessert was pretty good, gentle. The service was ok. They didn't check on us and didn't really notice when we were done and waiting. There is a discretionary service charge that I awkwardly had removed.”

“We visited Raymond’s last night as a party of four and let me tell you, Nottingham has been keeping this place far too quiet. The moment we stepped in from the heat the restaurant greeted us with cool air, contemporary elegance, and the sort of atmosphere that whispers, “Relax darling, you’re in good hands.” The décor is chic without trying too hard, and even though the restaurant was fully booked, the ambience remained calm and conversational. No shouting over tables, no chaos, just refined, effortless comfort. Now, the wine menu, oh my. A curated selection with actual personality. The kind of list that makes you feel a little bit fancy just reading it. We sampled generously, because why wouldn’t you. We ordered around twelve dishes, purely for research purposes of course and every single one was exceptional. The tuna crudo was nothing short of divine. I’m still thinking about it. I’m already planning to recreate it at home and pretend I’m hosting a private chef’s table. The pork melted in our mouths like it had been personally apologised to before cooking. Every dish had its own unique flavour profile and not a single misstep. Even though they are in the guide, quite frankly, I’m astonished they haven’t been awarded a Michelin star. They 100 percent should try again. If I must offer critique: Serving spoons would be a lovely touch, my OCD was doing controlled breathing while we all used our eating forks to share dishes. A little menu guidance would be helpful. We did ask and was told 2–3 dishes each, we had 3 each to share and it was absolutely perfect. Food: exquisite. Hospitality: impeccable. Location: ideal. Tuna crudo: worthy of a knighthood. We’ll be returning and next time, I’m not sharing a single bite of the tuna!”
