Bread & Lard Island
About Bread & Lard Island
Sundays at Bread & Lard Island bring a roast that regulars come back for, at a coffee shop on Trent Boulevard in Nottingham. Breakfast and brunch fill the rest of the week, from shakshuka and potato hash to ciabatta with bacon and eggs, with a breakfast curry appearing at times. Coffee anchors the drinks, alongside tea, wine and beer, and the counter also holds cakes and sweet treats such as a cinnamon swirl. Gluten-free eaters are catered for with bread swaps and gluten-free cake. Ordering happens at the counter, with no table service, and no booking is taken, so arrive and take a seat. Exposed brick, artwork on the walls, a large disco ball and plenty of lights shape the room, and a step-free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without help. High chairs suit families with young children, dogs are welcome, outdoor seats allow open-air dining, and food travels for eating off site. It opens Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays. Events go up on their Instagram.

Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast draws the most repeat praise, described as unbeatable for portion size and quality and, by one regular, as the best Sunday dinner they have had. Close behind sits breakfast and brunch: bacon and fried eggs on ciabatta with homemade tomato sauce comes up more than once, and reviewers also single out the cinnamon swirl, pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, shakshuka and potato hash, the breakfast curry when it appears, the burnt honey tart and roasted aubergine with Turkish bread. One visitor notes gluten free swaps, including a gluten free butterfly slice. Coffee gets steady mention, with one latte arriving with a design swirled into the froth. The room is described through its exposed brick, artwork, a huge disco ball and a busy, informal social feel, and dog owners say their pets are welcome. Opinions on price split, several calling it reasonable while one finds it a bit pricey. One diner could not finish an oversized portion and wished a server had come round to offer another drink, and another recalls a staff member pausing to chat about the book they were reading.

“Whilst on a bike ride. We stumbled across this venue. Popped in for a drink. The place had real social vibe. Busy but easily got served. Decent coffee, polite staff, average price price. Next maybe a bite to eat. But for now a well earnt cold one. Thanks”

“Lovely brunch place. Added bonus that they do cater for gluten free. They can swap bread for gluten free bread and had a gluten free butterfly slice which was delicious. Food was lovely and plentiful ❤️ Ordered: tea, later with oat milk, butterfly slice, cinnamon swirl, shakshuka and potato hash. All amazing 🤩 a bit pricey but the quality is there.”

“I stumbled across Bread & Lard Island this week after taking my puppy for his very first haircut. Nestled next door to the groomers, this coffee shop felt like stepping into a slice of New York, with its exposed brick, unique aesthetic, and effortlessly cool vibe. From the moment I walked in, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. One lovely lady even took a moment to chat with me about the book I was reading which I find to be such a rare and thoughtful touch that made the experience feel personal and genuine. The breakfast was nothing short of exceptional. My latte arrived with a stunning design swirled into the froth and I tried a unique cola that was refreshingly different. To accompany these, I enjoyed a perfectly warmed butter croissant and, hands down, the most delicious cinnamon swirl I’ve ever tasted. Soft, rich, and beautifully balanced. Bread & Lard Island isn’t just a coffee shop, it’s a place that makes you feel looked after, inspired, and just a little bit lucky to have found it. I can’t recommend it enough.”

“Can't believe I have lived in notts for 5 years and never been recommended this place! Such good food and coffee. Can't wait to get back. The roasted aubergine and Turkish bread was so tasty.”

“Stopping nearby so through I would try out this place and so glad I did, super friendly welcome from the owner. I went for the Bacon and fried eggs on a Ciabatta, not something I would normally have for breakfast but wow it was outstanding. It’s a very unique place with amazing artwork on the walls, a huge disco ball and loads of lights. They have events on too, see their instagram for details. I would highly recommend this place, every time I’ve walked past it’s very busy. I will be back next time I’m in this area. Always nice to support local businesses such as this. Look forward to coming back again.”
