About Barrons Fish Bar
Barrons Fish Bar is a fish and chips takeaway on Norwich Rd in Norwich, working on a walk-in basis with no bookings taken. Battered haddock and cod anchor the fryer list, alongside rock salmon and battered sausage, which comes in a footlong size as well as the standard. Curry sauce is on hand as a side, and scraps are added on request. On the first Monday of each month the shop fries gluten free, giving customers who avoid gluten a set date they can plan around. Many people ring their order through ahead of time and collect it at the counter. The shop opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays. Parking close by is not easy to come by.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the draw, with reviewers praising a huge cod, a nicely sized battered haddock and a lovely rock salmon, alongside generous portions of chips. Several describe the batter as light and the fish as crisp and tasty, and a few say they come most weeks or almost every Friday. Close behind is the footlong battered sausage, which one diner found surprisingly tasty, and the curry sauce earns a nod too. Staff are called friendly, and one reviewer singles out the gluten free night on the first Monday of the month. The complaints are specific and fairly recent. One updated review reports dry, overcooked chips, shrunken portions, tough chewy batter, and overcooked fish and battered sausages. Another found the fish full of bones and the sausage barely battered and overcooked, and a third feels the fish and sausage have slipped from earlier years. One earlier reviewer who asked for scraps was given a very generous free portion.

“Staying nearby in an air bnb, Barrons was reccomended by the owner. Rang in our order and went to collect. Less than a mile away, order was done when I got there. Agree with others, really good portion size of chips, nice sized battered haddock,.had asked for a large sausage, to be given a battered footlong, large indeed 😄, dont normally go for battered sausage ao was pleasantly suprised how light the batter was making for a very tasty sausage. Chipa were very nice too, as was my curry sauce. The fish also in the same light batter was crisp and tasty. Thank you Team Barron for a lovely chippy tea 😋”
