  “We’ve been using this restaurant for over 30 years, through its different ownership and have always enjoyed the evening and of course, the food and wine. Not so on this occasion, in fact we’ve never been treated anywhere in such an unfriendly and un-Spanish manner. Table booked weeks in advance as we had made this a place to celebrate, having last year celebrated my 60th with our boys. Our eldest son has certain allergies, we know what the triggers are and avoid Turkish, Thai, Lebanese etc., he’s eaten here previously and all over Spain for that matter and never had a problem. Dioni remembered us from last year which we thought was the start to another great evening! Anything but. Apparently the ‘allergy policy’ has changed, as did the atmosphere as we were handed a menu with crossed out dishes not suitable for our table. Whilst questioning what kind of oils and seasonings are used in their kitchen now, she turned her back whilst mid-conversation and dealt with other diners!!! At this point I was prepared to switch the conversation to Spanish, however I confess to not having the vocabulary required in this situation! On return, a request for a wine list was met with a blank expression and a curled lip. My wife enquired whether she really wanted us to dine this evening; in response, the same curled lip, a turned up nose and a rapid shake of the head. Whilst I appreciate restaurants have to protect their reputation and livelihood and a diner being carted out on a stretcher isn’t a great indictment, a polite and empathetic apology would handled the situation far better; but that wasn’t forthcoming. We’d had such a great evening last year, allergies accommodated, however 12 months on, the experience couldn’t have been any more hostile. We’ve never encountered such behaviour from a restaurant or its’ host anywhere in the world! If I could leave 0 Stars, I genuinely would … we left the restaurant angry and flabbergasted. Thankfully a much more accommodating establishment through the lanes secured our business that evening and the celebration was rescued. Needless to say, we will not be returning and would caution anyone with allergy issues to avoid or avoid mentioning it. What really spoiled the evening was the hostile and un-hostly way we were received.”

  “An incredible steak...so tasty and cooked to perfection. We only visit Norwich once a year but we always try to book a table. Staff are so helpful advising on choices and accompaniments.”

  “We went last night and the food was incredible, service was amazing and I cannot recommend Don Txoko more. What a wonderful place to spend a relaxing evening. Chatting to the chef at the end of the meal was a lovely experience, his passion for the food shined through.”

  “Absolutely amazing steaks and delicious small plate starters. Every plate made with real care, totally fresh and intense flavours. The steak is excellent and you must get the peppers with it - unbelievable! Great service, great selection of wines and specialty drinks - an excellent evening all round. Thank you!!”

  “A foodie must-try! The most wonderful and special dining experience. You are made to feel most welcome by Dioni who expertly advises on the menu, creates a relaxed atmosphere, and mixes delicious aperitifs! The food is exceptional, perfectly crafted and is staggered at just the right time throughout the evening. The main event of the steak is well worth it, you won't find better in the city. Jose the chef is highly skilled and it's a wonder how this couple run front and back of house so precisely. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience, thank you both!!”

  “The environment is welcoming and warm. We were seated quickly and the service was very relaxed but efficient. Supported with the menu and meats the whole evening and food brought out by the chef also added a personal touch. Good was cooked to perfection and service impeccable. We could not find one fault. Perfection!”

  “Hola! I’m Spanish, and I ate here today — absolutely loved it. Spanish food is all about top-quality ingredients, and these guys have the best you can find on the market, cooked perfectly in true Spanish style. At last, I’ve found a place where I can enjoy real Spanish food — not something adapted to English tastes. If you want to experience authentic Spanish cuisine with ingredients sourced directly from Spain, this is the only place in Norwich. Don’t look any further. The service was also incredible — super friendly, warm, and welcoming. They really make you feel at home and looked after with genuine care. The new owners have absolutely nailed it!”

  “We sat outside which was fine although tables a bit wobbly. Our meal was good and service was great. We felt the Triple cooked patatas were a bit salty , however, the other dishes were tasty and nice. Would go again, but need a steak partner to try one of their steaks which are on display inside.”
