Customer Review Summary
Breakfast draws the most praise, led by the full English and corned beef hash with fried eggs, which reviewers describe as old school comfort food with eggs cooked to perfection. Close behind is the Sunday roast, called great value with fresh ingredients, along with a spicy bean burger with melted vegan cheese and caramel shortbread with large coffees. Fresh orange juice and lemonade also get a mention. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and several reviewers say dogs were welcomed when other cafes turned them away. The garden, with tables placed well apart and flowers, also earns praise. One reviewer suggests booking rather than turning up because it got very busy. The one critical review, from a group visiting for afternoon tea, describes a wait before anyone came out to the garden to take the order, then a server who asked only "What are you having?" without a greeting, which the reviewer found rude and unwelcoming. Another reviewer, caught in the rain on a Sunday, was seated at a table reserved for later lunch.

“On holiday in Devon, and we passed through Bovey Tracey a beautiful little town. It was lunch time on a sunday so decided to get some lunch, so went in the Brookside cafe and Restraunt. We were met by lovely friendly staff who showed us to a table, there was 4 of us with 2 small dogs we all ordered the sunday Roast which we all agreed was great value for money and beautiful all fresh ingredients. So a great place to go for food where the staff are lovely and so is the food definitely Recommend.”

“Popped in for breakfast. The full English is very tasty using good quality ingredients. My partner had corned beef hash with 2 fried eggs and really enjoyed it. The fried eggs were cooked to perfection.”

“Our first visit and we were not disappointed. The presentation and quality of the food was of the highest order. We had an outside table and all tables are placed well apart in the pleasant garden to provide relative privacy. An endorsement of an eatery is if you return. We definitely will.”

“I am sorry to write this negative feedback, but I feel it is important to share my experience. A group of us visited this café/restaurant for afternoon tea. The garden looked lovely, and the outdoor seating area was clean and pleasant. What was most disappointing, however, was the level of customer service. We were served by two different members of staff one younger employee and a middle-aged lady. Unfortunately, neither of them showed much courtesy or hospitality. After being seated, we waited around 10 minutes before anyone came outside to take our order. When the middle-aged lady eventually approached us, she did not greet us with a simple "Good afternoon" or "Hello." Instead, she walked over, took out her pen and paper, and simply asked, "What are you having?" I found this quite rude and unwelcoming. I would urge the owner or manager to provide customer service training for the staff. Simple politeness, good manners, and a warm welcome can go a long way towards creating a positive experience for customers. Sadly, I do not think I will be returning anytime soon. Had the staff been properly trained in customer service, I would not have felt the need to leave this negative review. I hope this feedback is taken constructively and helps improve the experience for future customers.”
