About Mam's Kitchen
Sandwiches on fresh bread anchor the counter at Mam's Kitchen, a sandwich shop on West Rd in Newcastle Upon Tyne. A stottie comes filled with ham hock, pease pudding and mustard, and the Reuben is another of the filled options made to order. Breakfast runs through bacon rolls, a breakfast muffin, and a sausage and black pudding sandwich, while jacket potatoes and salads round out the midday choices. Coffees and teas are poured alongside homemade cake and other sweet treats, and a couple of tables inside give you somewhere to sit with a drink. Orders are placed at the counter on a walk-in basis, with cash preferred and a minimum spend applied to card payments. Gluten-free and vegan options are not part of the range. Dogs are welcome, and the shop trades Monday to Saturday, closing on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the Reuben sandwich, called outstanding by two separate diners, with the Northman Stottie of ham hock, pease pudding and mustard described as 10/10 by a visitor who saved it for the trip home. Close behind are the Mam's breakfast muffin, a sausage and black pudding sandwich a fussy child nearly finished, bacon rolls, jacket potatoes, salads and a ginger cake one reviewer calls the best they have had. Friendly staff and a clean, lovely interior come up repeatedly, and one group lunch order was reportedly delivered in under 15 minutes. A few reviewers raise drawbacks. One found the tomato sauce tasted cheap and felt prices had risen, and says the shop prefers cash and sets a minimum card spend, which left them comparing it with Greggs. Two reviewers wanted gluten free options, and one noticed no vegan or gluten free sweet treats. Parking is described as difficult. One regular describes free coffee and homemade cake handed out to pensioners on VE Day.

“Lovely interior and lovely service, not an easy place to find parking so suits locals a bit more who can walk there from work or home etc. They prefer cash so it’s a £6 minimum card spend. The food quality was okay but the tomato sauce tasted cheap. I can see the prices have recently increased too. As much as I like to support small businesses it’s quite tricky to when I had to pay £6 on my card where I could have spent a lot less at Greggs and got about the same quality of food. That being said I’d probably come again - probably with cash next time, and it wasn’t bad for a decent quick breakfast. Additionally they have a good menu and a nice range of sweet treats however didn’t notice any vegan or GF sweet treats.”

“Ordered off Uber eats. Got the Mam's breakfast Muffin what a throwback to a hungover Sunday morning. Absolutely beautiful. Full of flavour egg perfect. Still hot too! Got my little boy a sausage and black pudding sandwich and there is very little left! He's quite a fussy eater too! All I can say is this is 'proper' Mam's home cooked food, real comfort food. Would love to see some gluten free options so my husband could have the pleasure of the taste. Will be returning”
