About Soju & Gogi Express
Soju & Gogi Express is a Korean restaurant inside an indoor market in Newcastle Upon Tyne, on Alley Number 1. The Korean corn dogs are cooked fresh on the spot, and you can choose half cheese and half beef, with a normal or nacho coating. They come with sugar and ketchup. The menu also includes shin ramen topped with fresh mushrooms, chives or green onions and cheese, plus tteokbokki rice cakes for those who want something other than a corn dog. Payment is cash only, and card payments are not accepted. Drinks come from a fridge, and you name the one you want when you order. Food is served in paper bowls with wooden cutlery.

Customer Review Summary
Korean corn dogs draw the most mentions, described as freshly cooked with a sweet, crispy batter, melted cheese in the middle, and sugar and ketchup on top, with a half cheese half beef version and a nacho coating also noted. Close behind are the shin ramen with fresh mushrooms and green onions, the chewy, rich, spicy tteokbokki, and the Korean fried chicken, called crispy and juicy. Reviewers also name the katsu curry rice with crispy baked potatoes, sweet and sour chicken with a kick, and bulgogi beef so soft it needed no chewing. Service is called friendly and fast, though one reviewer saw a single worker handling a lunch rush. The recurring practical catch is that the stall does not take cards. Reviewers say to bring cash, and another notes a bank account number and sort code are displayed for transfers. One reviewer adds that the generous ramen cheese solidifies if not eaten quickly.

“Amazing food and super cheap! I ate like a queen for £9! That beef was so soft, didn’t even need to chew it:)) Also love that they show a bank account number and sort code, for people that don’t have cash!”

“Very well made katsu curry rice. I can taste from the crispiness that the katsu was freshly made, and the potatoes have been baked so that the edges are crispy. This is not the bog standard lemon chicken you get from your local chippy. Excellent value for money for £8.50. This is an indoor market with no facility to store and wash dishes. Everything is served in a paper bowl with wooden cutlery. Please be aware that they do not accept card payments. You should either have enough cash with you, or be able to set up a bank transfer to a new business account on the spot (e.g. may be a problem with HSBC because this cannot be done on the mobile phone).”
