Quick info
About Mannaza Korean Restaurant
Mannaza Korean Restaurant in Newcastle Upon Tyne is a Korean restaurant built around ventilated BBQ grills at the table. The team explains how to cook each cut and which condiments to pair it with, and helps diners choose from the meat platters on the K-BBQ menu. Self-fry bulgogi and samgyeopsal, the pork belly, are both on the grill menu, and a sesame oil dip comes with the BBQ. Away from the grill, the kitchen makes kimchi pancake. A lunch menu is served on a red tray. The drinks list includes soju, and the staff recommend options from it.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the friendly, helpful staff, who explain the self-cook K-BBQ, help choose the meat platter and suggest better food and soju options. Diners name the samgyeopsal and self-fry bulgogi, with a sesame oil dip singled out as a standout, along with japchae, kimchi pancake, gyoza and toppoki, which one calls the best. Many describe the food as delicious and the prices as cheap or affordable, and the lunch menu is called filling with huge portions. The tables are described as well spaced and not noisy, and one finds the room cosy in person. The main complaint is that the smell of BBQ from other tables spreads quickly, and one reviewer mentions a slightly greasy feel in the air. One reviewer found the beef bulgogi unbalanced, with too much bland rice against the meat, though the crust of rice at the bottom was nice. Several say they return whenever in Newcastle, and one notes the staff remembered them on a second visit.

“Mannaza was a great surprise. We ordered Japchae, self fry Bulgogi, Samgyeopsal and boiled rice, and the whole experience felt both interactive and comforting at the same time. The staff really stood out. They were incredibly friendly and genuinely helpful. Even though I have had Korean barbecue before, every place seems to do it slightly differently, and here they took the time to explain the dishes, how to cook certain elements properly and how to pair everything with the different condiments. That guidance makes a big difference and shows real care. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering how filling the meal was. From pictures online it does not look like the most impressive venue, but in person it is actually quite cosy. There is a slightly greasy feel in the air, but that almost comes with the territory when you are cooking meat at the table. It adds to the authentic, no frills, comfort food atmosphere. As for the food, it was excellent. The Japchae was full of flavour, the meats were fresh and satisfying to cook yourself, and everything worked beautifully with the sides. The real standout for me though was the sesame oil dip. Simple, but absolutely stunning and elevated every bite. Definitely one I would return to.”
