About Quay Ingredient

Quay Ingredient is a small coffee shop in Newcastle Upon Tyne, on Queen St under the Tyne Bridge on the Quayside. The kitchen works through a breakfast-style menu built around Eggs Benedict variants, including the Toulouse benedict and Eggs Hebridean. A Full English comes with black pudding, poached eggs, sausages and mushrooms, and extras such as beans and hash browns can be added. Customer Review Summary

Breakfast is the draw, and eggs Benedict leads it: reviewers praise a Benedict with tempura bacon and a Toulouse benedict, while others name the Eggs Hebridean, French toast with bacon, and a full English with tender, rich black pudding and extra hash browns. Close behind, diners describe friendly, quick service, and one says staff reassured a pregnant diner about which menu items she could have. Coffee gets a mention too, with a white Americano described as smooth and balanced, and a London Fog enjoyed for being different. The caveats are speed and setting. One reviewer waited around 40 minutes for plain toast despite being warned of a delay, another calls the pace better for hungry diners than for relaxed lounging, and one mentions seagull noise under the bridge. Another reviewer wished the menu offered more choice. One reviewer notes the owner's staff pushing extras such as hash browns and sausages, which they took in good humour.

“Under the Tyne Bridge hides a real gem of a coffee house. Breakfast cooked with fresh, quality ingredients and a bucket load of love. The Toulouse benedict was simply delicious. Don't miss out!”

“Recommended by a friend so had to try it. I had the breakfast and it was delicious 😋 lovely friendly staff well worth the walk to it. Located under the Tyne bridge and only issue some people may have is the noise from the seagulls nearby. Lots of options on the menu.”

“Popped into Quay Ingredient for a quick coffee and it was spot on. Had a white Americano and it was really well made - smooth, balanced, no bitterness. They also gave a good side of milk which was actually useful, not just an afterthought. Sat outside which was nice, good spot for people watching on the Quayside. The waitress was also prompt, friendly, and polite, which made the whole experience feel easy and well looked after. Overall just a solid, relaxed coffee stop - nothing over the top, just done properly”

“Oh wow such a great place to have breakfast, we really loved the food here along with the vibe, my only point to raise was the amount of choice on the menu. Such a beautiful and friendly cafe, you have to give points to the owner of this place, you do hear her managing the staff but in fairness she is just cracking the whip and managing and it clearly works, and they do not miss a sales trick, trying to sell the extras such as hash browns or extra sausages and so points trying, fair play it makes the whole time experience delightful and the owner gives you a lovely positive vibe to the day when you leave.”

“oh my junk this place was fantastic. They're fast and efficient, so it's not really a place for relaxed lounging, but excellent when you're hungry! I had the Eggs Hebridean and the French toast with bacon. I'm still thinking about both. If you can't decide, Trisha will give you excellent recommendations.”
