About Pink Lane Coffee
Pink Lane Coffee is a coffee shop at 1 Pink Ln in Newcastle Upon Tyne, directly opposite Newcastle Central train station. The team roasts its own beans, and the door handles are barista tools, so the coffee focus starts at the entrance. The drinks list includes flat whites alongside filter brew and pourover, and the baristas will explain the different coffees on offer. Vegan options are available, including a vegan chocolate chip cookie. Inside, the lighting is strip lighting. The shop is open daily, daytime only.

Customer Review Summary
Service splits the reviews. Several call the staff friendly and efficient, yet others describe them as miserable and unwelcoming, or say a smile would have transformed the visit. One reviewer found a barista with a fed up look who only asked "do you want anything else?" on a quiet day. Two hot chocolates were called good but short on chocolate. One reviewer says they met their partner here on a first date.

“This is the best place you can get coffee in Newcastle. It's right near Central Station, so it's easy, convenient. Yes, Starbucks is just a few doors down, but this place is better. Have I been to Lagom? Yes. Tiny Tiny? Yes. Laneway? Yes? Northshore, Pumphreys? These guys roast their own coffee beans, and they've pretty much got it down from roasting to pouring. Here's the deal: Lagom has far better customer service. Superior. There are two baristas here who are fantastic, unfortunately I did not get their names. The first barista was super helpful on my first visit, a young, darker-skinned, dark haired lady. She told me about the pourovers and explained the flavors, taste, body of each, when I simply asked her what the difference between them were. And then she asked what I liked. I went in another day and saw new faces, and the cafe was not busy at all, and the barista gave a fed up looked, and instead of responding, just said, "do you want anything else?" Coffee is, unfortunately, a snobbish culture, third-wave coffee independent chains even more so. I've been there, done that, and this place gives that type of vibe except those two baristas. The other was a clean shaven younger guy. I feign ignorance almost always whenever I go to coffee shops, and it's incredible how refreshing it is to come across people who are approachable with their craft. That type of customer kindness also just makes the experience better, having primes the drinker before the first sip is even tasted. I recommend their Finca La Esmeralda. With a chocolate croissant, it is a good pairing. The Biya Faris stands well on its own, and it does not pair well with the cinnamon bun (I cannot recommend). I have told other friends to visit. The only one I have not tasted is the Finca Artemira. The Esmeralda, all day, I recommend.”

“Lovely coffee shop tucked away opposite Newcastle train station. Good speciality coffee place with plenty of vegan options available, and friendly staff. I met my now partner here back on our very first date so it definitely holds special memories for me!”

“Had a lovely flat white at Pink Lane today and a bowl of delicious yogurt with berries and honey. Upon entry, I loved the atmosphere, it smelled good. The music was at a good level, the staff were friendly, the chairs were comfortable, and I liked the overall vibe. A cute touch is the use of barista tools for the door handles. I thought the coffee flavor was very professional and excellently pulled. The heart shaped decoration on top of my flat white was perfectly done. Monday August 10th at 10 am I found the place by searching coffee near me as I got off the Newcastle train.”

“For the coffee alone, this place should be given 5 stars! Absolutely delicious and you can taste the quality. I was disappointed in the customer service, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either - a smile goes a long way and would have transformed the experience. Recommend for the coffee, and love the wallpaper in the bathroom.”

“Wow! Just wow! I came here on a Sunday and despite it being very busy the service speed and quality of the service was incredible. I was served by Matilda, who was lovely. All the staff were incredible, but just wanted to give Matilda a shout and and the credit she deserves. She made sure that we are alright throughout our time there and gave some fantastic recommendations about the coffees and food, as well as, some recommendations for things to do around Newcastle during the day. She was incredibly helpful and I’m very impressed. Can’t believe I haven’t been here yet but I will most certainly be coming back.”
