Quick info
About North Shore Coffee
North Shore Coffee is a coffee shop at Unit 30 in Grainger Market, Newcastle Upon Tyne, run as a standalone stall with a few seats at the counter. It suits a grab-your-coffee-and-go stop. The business began in 2015 at Quayside Market with a gazebo and a single coffee machine, and a second stall trades there today. It now also runs coffee vans and cafes around the North-East. The drinks list includes flat white, long black and batch brew, with iced lattes and milk alternatives for those who want them. The soya latte comes with vanilla syrup or brown sugar. Food is toasties, with a vegan option, alongside sandwiches, cinnamon buns and cakes.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the coffee itself, with the flat white and the long black singled out as spot on, and the batch brew and house espresso also earning praise. Iced lattes made with milk alternatives and a soya latte with vanilla syrup or brown sugar come up as well. Close behind are the toasties, sandwiches and a fresh cinnamon bun, along with a vegan option one reviewer calls excellent. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming, and one diner who sat at the counter with a latte felt very welcome. The caveats are scattered but specific. One regular finds the staff inconsistent, some polite and others unwelcoming, and says the hot chocolate seems hit and miss depending on who makes it. Another calls the hot chocolate small and the visit pricey overall, and a third found the flat white decent but capable of being better. Several note it is a standalone stall suited to a grab-and-go stop, with a few seats at the bar. One coffee professional on a first visit to Newcastle was so taken with the house espresso that they plan to order a bag for home.

“Exceptional coffee, possibly the best flat white I've drank. The cinimon bums was fresh, soft and full of flavour. Highly recommend. When in Newcastle this will no be my go to coffee stop.”

“I’ve had North Shore’s coffee a few times when they’re at the markets, and honestly, it is one of the best coffees going. I have no idea how they do it, but they must source the absolute best beans because the flavor is literally top-tier every single time. If you’re a coffee lover and you see them at the markets, you have to grab one—absolutely unreal!”

“Visited Newcastle for the first time ever with my partner this week! Both of us work in Coffee, so we were eager to get our specialty coffee fixes and North Shore had us sorted for just about the whole trip. We both had multiple Iced Lattes and were accommodated with milk alternatives. Their house espresso was so delicious that I will be ordering a bag for home, and the staff at their Grainger Market location were lovely - although that seems to be true of all Geordies. It is a lovely little spot in Grainger Market, perfect for a coffee stop off before heading into Newcastle City Centre - there are some seats at the bar but it is more suited for a smaller group or for takeaway just because of the fact it is a standalone stall. Their sandwiches are also really good! Can't wait to hopefully visit again ☕🐦⬛”

“One of the best cups of coffee I’ve had in the town. Ordered a long black and it was spot on (I’m not a coffee snob but all too often you just get an americano). Great flavour and hot not boiling. The two staff were polite and smiley too. Next time I’m back I’ll be going here for my cuppa.”

“North Shore Coffee first opened on Newcastle’s famous Quayside Market back in 2015 where we rocked up with just a gazebo, a coffee machine and hopper full off passion and enthusiasm to make people awesome coffee. Since then we’ve had a few upgrades to our equipment and now you can find our coffee vans and cafes dotted around the North-East serving up the same fantastic brews day in day out. Always delicious. Always happy. Always smiling!”
