About The Wheel & Compass
The Wheel & Compass is a family-run pub in Market Harborough, on Valley Rd, open daily for food and drink. Mondays are pie special days, with several pies to choose from, which gives the week a fixed point for anyone planning a meal out. The kitchen also serves homemade beer-battered fish, and a Sunday roast rounds out the weekend. The drinks list covers a selection of beers and ciders to go with the food. Lasagne and burgers sit on the menu for those who want something different from the pies and roasts.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the homecooked food in hearty portions, with the pie, the kiev, the liver, and the ham egg and chips named by one diner, and the beer-battered fish, the lasagne, a burger, and the Sunday roast and carvery also getting praise. Close behind are the friendly staff and the value, with several calling the prices affordable. Families mention the play area and swing, and the beer garden gets a nod for its views over the fields. The main criticism comes from one Monday night table, where four people found the tikka masala far too sweet and said the manageress was dismissive when they raised it. The same reviewer heard swearing between the chef and staff near the kitchen, and the pork belly arrived without its cider jus. Another reviewer notes the vegetarian burgers have left the menu and prefers a pub in Halton for food alone. Several describe food arriving quickly and piping hot, and one visitor praised the barman as polite and accommodating even while criticising the curry.

“It's a good place too meet up with mates for a drink and some wee snacks and generally quite nice and the price is decent I pay 15 quid for what you see in the photo. Just he warned the menu has changed from some of the photos on here so there no vegi burgers which is a bit of a bummer. Tho if your coming here for a nice meal there roast on the Sunday is quite good and don't get me wrong the food here is good, I loved the wedges I had but I feel like the fox over in Halton is slightly better for food alone and both vibes are equal and the server here at the wheel and compass was very quick and nice so don't get me wrong it's good here but if you care just for food I highly recommend the fox.”

“Table for 4 on a monday night. Pub barman was polite accommodating and as helpfull as you could ask for... 10/10 HOWEVER Manageress / supervisor was loud and dismissive of any criticism of a Very poor curry (to which 4 people at the table agreed was sweet! ) "had SLUSH PUPPY'S less sweet" Also tables near the kitchen area be prepared to hear all the general swearing in the conversation from chef to supervisor/ staff (not great in a famiy meal with child present) Food: Pork belly 8/10 lovely but forgot the cider jus 🤷🏻♂️ Turkey & cranberry pie 7/10 very nice Steak and Stilton hot baguette 7/10 very nice Tikka Masala 2/10 super sweet more of a desert than a curry (average rice & naan)”

“We ate so much it was ridiculous! Absolutely spoilt for choice! A party of 4 on a Monday which was pie special day but we genuinely couldn't pick which one to choose 100% we will be back soon. Everything was delicious. Atmosphere was perfect and the park is great for the little ones. Long live the Hawkstone btw!!”

“I don’t write many reviews unless they’re truly deserved, but this is a pub that definitely deserves some credit! This was our second visit to the Wheel & Compass, and once again we had a fantastic experience. I’ve had the homemade beer-battered fish on both visits, and both times it has been absolutely delicious — hats off to the chef! The atmosphere is great, the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the prices offer brilliant value for money. All round, it’s a fantastic establishment and has quickly become my new favourite place. The play area and swing for my little boy are also a massive bonus and make it a great place for families. We’ll definitely be back again soon and will happily be recommending the Wheel & Compass to friends and family. Thank you to all the staff at the Wheel & Compass for two wonderful lunches!”
