Quick info
About The Oast House - Manchester
The Oast House is a cocktail bar and restaurant on The Avenue in Spinningfields, Manchester, housed in a wooden cottage-style building. In winter a fire burns inside, and live music is played by the fire, so the room works as a place to settle in for an evening. The kitchen serves comfort food and roasts, including a chicken toastie with gravy to dip into, lamb and chicken kebabs with garlic oil, and loaded fries topped with torn chicken, cheese and gravy. Cocktails sit alongside the food, and the bar runs late-night drinks. Door staff check ID on entry, so guests should bring physical ID.

Customer Review Summary
Live music is the most frequent draw, paired with a fire in winter, a lively outdoor area on sunny days and plenty of seating. Reviewers call the vibe fantastic and describe it as a place to go out late or spend a long afternoon over a few pints. Food praise centres on a chicken toastie with gravy for dipping and lamb and chicken kebabs with a delicious garlic oil. Drinks split opinion: one likes the choice of beers, while others find the range limited and the pints pricey. The sharpest complaints concern the door, where two groups aged 25 and 26 describe a rude, dismissive host after one friend could only show a photo of a passport. Another reviewer says the menu has changed, and the loaded fries came as a small portion of frozen crinkle cut chips with salty gravy and no visible chicken or cheese.

“Live music, plenty of seating and a couple of pints. Perfect afternoon for me.”

“Really nice spot and the chicken toastie was fantastic, really enjoyed the gravy that came with it to dip into as well, very tasty! Only marking down a star because I do feel it is a little pricey over all both food wise and the cost of the beer. But on a nice sunny day it's a great spot and it wouldn't stop me going back.”

“We had been looking forward to visiting, but the experience was ruined before we even got through the door. Our group was made up of adults aged 25–26, and while one person didn’t have their physical ID on them, the way the situation was handled by the host was completely unnecessary. We understand that venues have the right to enforce their ID policy, and if that’s the rule, then that’s fair enough. The issue wasn’t the policy—it was the attitude. The host was incredibly rude, dismissive, and spoke to us in a way that felt confrontational from the outset. There was no attempt to explain the policy politely or treat us with basic courtesy. Instead, we were made to feel like an inconvenience and were spoken to disrespectfully in front of other customers. First impressions matter, and unfortunately this was one of the worst welcomes we’ve experienced at a restaurant/bar. Customer service costs nothing, and there’s a huge difference between enforcing a policy and being unnecessarily hostile. Based on this experience alone, we won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone expecting to be treated with respect.”

“Used to like the menu, it's changed completely and is absolutely not worth the money. I got the loaded fries, was a measly portion of frozen crinkle cut chips, was supposed to have torn chicken on there, I couldn't see any, also supposed to have cheese I couldn't see any, I had to actually ask the waiter if I was given the right food. Was basically a very small portion of frozen chips with an insanely salty gravy, for £10 . My friend's wine glass was filthy, and I had to go and get a new glass for my cider as the one brought had milk in the bottom, gross.”
