About Thaikhun
Thaikhun is a Thai restaurant on The Avenue in Spinningfields, Manchester, where the kitchen is open plan and cocktails sit on the menu. It also runs Thai cooking classes in which couples share a station and make dishes such as a traditional Thai curry and fresh spring rolls, which gives pairs a hands-on way to cook together. At the table, the Pinto sharing feast puts a spread of different dishes in the middle for everyone to share. Bottomless prawn and veg crackers come with a sweet chilli dip. Dishes arrive on leaf-shaped plates.

Customer Review Summary
The Thai cooking class draws the most praise, with reviewers describing a traditional Thai curry and fresh spring rolls made with friendly, patient teachers who gave clear instructions. One booked it for Mother's Day, though couples share a single station and that reviewer wished each person had their own. In the restaurant, the pinto sharing feast comes close behind, alongside beef street noodles, spicy chicken Thai basil fried rice, papaya salad, prawn toast and fried squid. Diners also single out the cocktails, the big Thai tea and the bottomless prawn crackers with sweet chilli dip. Authenticity divides opinion. One returning visitor found the Pad Thai had too many flavours competing, another was told there was no fish sauce and no spicy sauce beyond ketchup, and one wanted sweeter Thai mangoes in the mango sticky rice. One also noted the dining room was nearly empty. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and one reviewer who left an item behind got two calls before opening and found it stored safely.

“What an amazing experience! We made a traditional Thai curry and fresh spring rolls, and every part of the class was so enjoyable. The teachers were absolutely fantastic—so friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. They explained everything really clearly and made the whole experience fun and easy to follow, no matter your cooking ability. The food was absolutely delicious, and I can’t wait to make it all again at home. I learned so many useful tips and had such a great time from start to finish. I would 100% recommend this class to anyone visiting Thailand or anyone who loves Thai food. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip!”

“Authentic bold flavours that really reminded me of my trip to Thailand. Everything was well cooked and seasoned perfectly and the service was impeccable. I also appreciated the big size of Thai Tea which you can never have enough of as well as the fun leaf-shaped plates that the dishes came in. I found the mango sticky rice to be good but it would’ve better if they used proper sweet Thai mangoes although I understand that that can be quite expensive to buy/source. Nevertheless I would definitely go back again.”

“I recently visited Thaikhun again after having enjoyed it in the past, and unfortunately the food was not quite the same this time. The Pad Thai used to have a more authentic and balanced flavour, whereas this visit felt like too many flavours competing at once, making it less enjoyable than I remembered. That being said, the staff were excellent – friendly, welcoming, attentive, and always smiling. They really made the experience more pleasant. The atmosphere was also quite different from previous visits. Thaikhun used to feel lively and bustling, but this time the restaurant seemed unusually quiet. With over 50 tables available, only three were occupied during my visit, which made the place feel a little empty and lacking the vibrant energy I remembered. Overall, great service from the team, but I hope the food returns to the quality and authenticity that made me a fan in the first place.”

“I absolutely love Thaikun. I have been multiple times and each time I go the food has been amazing - full of flavour, hearty, quick and friendly service, and reasonably priced. My parents came up to visit me and I took them there and they fell in love with the place! We got the pinto sharing feast which was an amazing spread of food and a couple of other things (papaya salad, chicken and prawn toast, fried squid). This time, we had gone for dinner and I had accidentally left something there. By 10am the next morning they called me, not once but twice (before the restaurant even opened) to let me know they had it. When I went to collect it, they had even stored it incredibly safely for me. I cannot thank them enough for that! I would definitely recommend! Absolutely amazing!”
