Customer Review Summary
Salt and pepper dishes come up most, and reviewers split on them. One praises the salt and pepper box for a tasty batter that is slightly sweet, and another says it is a son's regular order, while a third finds the salt and pepper chicken short on seasoning and a fourth calls the salt and pepper ribs dry. Special chow mein and pork chow mein earn praise, as do king prawn foo yeung and sweet and sour chicken. Large portions are a steady theme, and several say delivery arrives hot and fast. The complaints centre on flavour and freshness. Reviewers describe a bland sweet and sour king prawn sauce, special fried rice that was dry with little meat, sweet and sour pork that turned out to be battered char siu, and beef in the special chow mein that a chef reviewer found dry and not cooked to order. Others say the family team sorts out order issues, and one mentions free prawn crackers arriving with the meal.

“Ive been using the great wall for some time now, trying different meals each time. Everytime I've ordered, the food has always arrived quickly, bearing in mind they're just under 3 miles away, it always arrives hot. So far, I have been extremely satisfied with the quality of the food, and the service. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are very good, although my appetite these days is much smaller, I still order extra so I can have another meal the next day. I love the fact that you can order on line and pay with a card or even PayPal, there are still takeaways who insist on cash only in an age where cash is no longer king. Highly recommend The Great Wall. Thank you guys 😊”

“Have ordered from here for about 5 years, my son loves the salt & pepper box. I ordered sweet and sour pork for myself, unfortunately this was absolutely awful. It was slices of char sui which had then been battered & deep fried. I couldn't eat it, went straight in the bin. I also had the s&p sui mail, all bar 1 peice had lost its dumpling wrapper. I will not be ordering”

“Really good Chinese takeaway! A bit pricier than our usual spot, but you definitely get your money’s worth with the portion sizes, loadsss of food. The pork chow mein was especially good 😍 Super convenient too since you can order online, pay by card, and delivery’s only £1.50 if you’re local”

“The meals were actually cooked well but lacked flavour. Sweet and sour soup was nice but lacked the sour flavour so it was spoilt. The sweet and sour king prawn sauce again lacked a strong flavour so came across as bland unfortunately. The salt and pepper chicken again lacked the strong salt and pepper taste. I hope this is rectified and then I would go back.”

“I went last night. It was a regular visit. My salt and pepper ribs were dry. The ribs were not cut in a presentable way. Not fresh ! My special chow mein was very average. The pieces of sliced beef were also dry. From ordering to receiving my meal suggested that the ingredients were not cooked to order. I am a chef and I know what fresh food tastes like.”
