Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the food, with the homemade three cheese and onion pie and chips drawing top marks from one diner, who found it tastiest with mushy peas. Close behind are the soup of the day, fish cakes, beef roast, steak and ale pie, bhaji wrap and a Lamb Henry that one reviewer highly recommends. Eton mess gets praise as a dessert. Hot and cold buffets for family birthday parties in a teepee and under gazebos are described as plentiful, with the staff catering for a celiac guest. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly, helpful and willing to go above and beyond, even when busy. Reviewers also mention the dog-friendly welcome, a seat by the fire, outdoor seating and a Tuesday pub quiz with a friendly atmosphere. A Chilean Chardonnay is called really good wine. No recurring complaint appears, though one regular warns that every table is taken on quiz night, so they get in early. One Mother's Day diner describes staff bringing a complimentary flowers in pot to the table.

“Visited Saturday 15th August 2026. When we walked into the pub, it was very welcoming. Staff were very friendly and polite and knowledgeable. The interior of the pub was spacious, clean... Service was good. Food,, the starters we had was were two different ones. Chicken strips were good. Marks out of 10 would be 8.. Soup of the day,, i have to say was very very good. If marking out of 10, i would say 9.5... Meals,, we had the homemade 3 cheese and onion pie with chips and sauce, one with peas and the other with mushy peas. With peas,, marks out of 10,, is 9. With mushy peas out of 10,, i would give 10... The chips were lovely. The sauce was excellent. The pie was EXCELLENT,, vert tasty and filling.”

“I went for Mother’s Day to the Jolly Thresher and it deserves more than Five stars! The food and service were exceptional. It was difficult to chose as the menu was just lovely but I opted for the fish cakes for starters that were so tasty and well presented freshly cooked and looked delicious. The beef roast was a sure highlight, but as I love a dessert I also indulged in the Eaton mess (see picture) and it did not disappoint it was not only aesthetically pleasing but tasted as good as its looked. Despite being busy staff went above and beyond and the restaurant clearly runs like clockwork, even bringing us a complimentary flowers in pot for Mother’s Day which was a lovely surprise. A must-visit, not only for a special occasion but an impulse visit ! Try to get Jo as your waitress she was insanely good tending to the tables promptly and with professionalism ! She was brilliant as were all the staff. I recommend this gem it’s just gorgeous !”

“Lovely Saturday lunch with my mum and daughter. Kids tomato pasta disappeared before I could get a pic of it, mum had steak and ale pie with chips and I had the bhaji wrap - faultless food and full tums all around!”
