Reviewers most often single out the food and its generous portions, with the presentation and value for money praised repeatedly. Several mention appetizers, and one calls the presentation magnificent. Close behind is friendly, accommodating staff, and a few add the view over the marina and the open doors that let the breeze in. “We thought this was a high-end, sophisticated restaurant, but we were very disappointed by the behavior of what appeared to be a manager or senior staff member. A woman was openly vaping inside the dining area and walked straight into the kitchen with the vape in her mouth, shouting and swearing. She later went outside to join a loud, intoxicated group, blowing vape smoke around customers and continuing her disruptive behavior. Her total lack of hygiene and professional conduct raised serious food safety concerns for us and ruined the atmosphere. The food was good and the rest of the staff were lovely, but due to this individual's unacceptable behavior, we will not be returning.”

“I thought I'd exhausted the supply of lovely places to have breakfast in my home county of Leicestershire, but no! What a lovely place, I believe they're also open of an evening so will be VERY happy to go again, great food, excellent service and a great view over the marina, what's not to like? Go on, treat yourself, this is a great spot to while away a morning!”

“Great way to get some sun, watch the boats and enjoy the area. you'll want to drive as its a bit of a hazard walking along the busy road, but only a few minutes out of the town and your in a nice countryside setting. Food was very good (had appetizers) and the drinks were cold. Full height doors on the cafe open up to let you feel the breeze. Well worth the drive for a nice lunch, snack or dinner.”

“We recently visited the Pillings Boathouse Restaurant on Saturday evening and had a really enjoyable experience. Although not all of the food was to our personal taste, it was all beautifully presented. The meat was slightly overcooked—we had asked for medium to medium-rare, but it arrived closer to medium-well. That said, the portion sizes were fantastic and the value for money was excellent. The service was good throughout, and Joey was especially friendly and accommodating, which made the evening even more enjoyable. Overall, we had a great time and would absolutely return.”

“We always love a visit to Pillings Lock Marina restaurant. The food and service is absolutely fabulous. It really is a hidden gem. Don’t think twice just book it and go. You will receive a very warm welcome and Bob and I were very kindly treated to a cocktail on the house for our 35th wedding anniversary what a lovely surprise thank you Pillings Lock”
