Quick info
About John's House
John's House is a fine dining restaurant in Loughborough, set in a farmhouse at 139-141 Loughborough Rd in Mountsorrel, with a farm shop next door. Produce comes from the family farm and local suppliers, so the kitchen works directly from the land around it, and bread rolls are baked daily on site. Lunch offers a 3 course menu and a 5 course tasting menu. Evenings bring a taster menu and a 7 course menu with wine pairing. A small snack arrives with drinks before guests sit down, and petit fours close the meal. The team explains each course along with its ingredients and flavours, and sauces are poured over the dish at the table. The restaurant takes walk-ins.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often come for the tasting menu, with the five course and the seven course with wine pairing singled out, while one reviewer chose the three course and found every course sublime. Close behind is how the food is served: servers explain the ingredients and flavours of each course, and sauces are poured over dishes at the table. Reviewers also praise the bread rolls baked daily, the homegrown and local produce, a zero alcohol spiced G&T, and cocktails and wine they call great. The mood is repeatedly described as relaxed and friendly, and one reviewer notes it lacks the stuck up vibe expected of a Michelin star restaurant. One reviewer acknowledges paying more here than elsewhere, while others call the lunch good value. The one regret mentioned is having no room left for the cheese course. Guests receive snacks with drinks before seating, and one party had their petit four boxed up to take home.

“Our 1st visit to John's House. Had a wonderful lunch here to celebrate my birthday with hubby. The 5 course tasting menu was inspired with fantastic use of homegrown and local produce. It's very relaxed and friendly with the servers being attentive and explaining in detail each course. Lovely zero alcohol spiced G&T cocktail too! We will definitely return. Thank you to all the staff for making it a memorable day.”

“Had a wonderful lunch with friends to celebrate a retirement. It was our first visit for my husband and I, our friends go quite frequently and have always loved it and I can see why!! The reception on arrival was lovely and welcoming, the restaurant was simply and beautifully furnished not ostentatious which created a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were friendly and efficient and explained every course we had with details of ingredients and flavours. The food was delicious, beautifully prepared, cooked and presented. Simply put, dining at John's House is an experience that shows the love of good ingredients put together in a wonderful way. We will most certainly return and recommend to our friends and family. One final note, the bread rolls, which are baked daily in the kitchens are amazing!!!”

“We loved our lunch at John's house. The food was outstanding, the staff were very friendly, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Despite it being 33°C outside, the staff didn't let that faze them and still provided excellent service. Will definitely be returning!”

“What a place! We had the taster menu for dinner and it did not disappoint. Each dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, incredibly friendly and chatty. There isn’t a stuck up vibe that you might expect from a Michelin star restaurant, just a relaxed experience from start to finish. Nice little touches with the menu and a little card and gift for our anniversary. Our first time visiting and hopefully will not be our last!”
