About The Monk
On Station Rd in Loughborough, The Monk is a restaurant that marks guests' celebrations with personal touches, such as a birthday card on the table or a beer and socks gift for Father's Day. Birthdays and anniversaries get the same attention, so the restaurant suits a table built around an occasion. The kitchen cooks dishes like pea soup with freshly baked bread and a crayfish and shrimp risotto, and the dessert menu includes crème brûlée. Drinks include alcohol-free cocktails, among them an Aperol-style option. The restaurant plays music while guests dine.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the food at The Monk, with the starter menu named as a draw on its own and the flavours described as bursting off the plate. One lunch visitor praised a vibrant pea soup with freshly baked bread, a crayfish and shrimp risotto and a creme brûlée, plus three alcohol free cocktails, the Aperol style one especially. Close behind is friendly, attentive staff, and several reviewers say portions look small but turn out surprisingly filling. Celebrations come up repeatedly, with birthday and anniversary visits described as made special by personal touches, including a birthday card on the table and a bathroom stocked with toiletries. Reviewers also call the atmosphere cosy and intimate and mention good music on a Sunday. No real complaints appear, though a couple suggest booking ahead, and one party without a reservation was still accommodated. One father's day diner finished the meal with a gift of a beer and socks for his dad.

“Visited yesterday for the first time to take my Dad out for a father's day meal. I'd heard good things about the restaurant and wasn't disappointed. The service staff are all so friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. Would absolutely go back! A special thank you for the beer and socks they gave to my Dad as a father's day gift at the end. Really nice touch to end the meal.”

“The Monk is a lovely place. A warm welcome on arrival and although we didn’t have a booking they made the effort to accommodate us (I recommend booking though to make things easier for all parties). The building is lovely and interesting, the service we received was first class and the food was excellent. Thank you very much.”

“I celebrated my birthday here. The food tasted amazing - full of flavour and despite not appearing to be big portions were surprisingly filling. The staff were friendly and attentive. The vibe of the restaurant was cosy and Intimate. The little touches such as the bathroom toiletries in the ladies and the birthday card on the table added that little bit extra. I will definitely be back.”
