About Top Cuvée Shoreditch

Top Cuvée Shoreditch is a wine bar on Bethnal Green Road in London, set in a basement beneath its own ground-floor wine shop. Hot dogs are the main food, served with waffle fries, and a small plates menu adds cheese and saucisson, with veggie options alongside. The wine list leans on natural bottles, including sparkling and orange wine, and a house white is poured by the glass. Cocktails include an orange wine margarita. The downstairs room is narrow and has no soft furnishings, and a happy hour deal runs here. The bar is open Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come for the natural wines in a small, tight basement, singling out a sparkling natural wine, the orange wine margarita and the vermouth soda, alongside cheese, beans, focaccia and olives. Hot dogs are close behind but divide opinion. One couple enjoyed them, with veg options available, while another diner found the sausage still in its casing under sauce, with soggy waffle fries. Two diners found the house white unimpressive. Several call the staff lovely, warm and helpful, though one reviewer found two of the team off-putting. The basement is described as very noisy, with no soft furnishings, and one returning visitor found the place tired, with an overflowing bin and ripped streamers. Pricing draws the sharpest complaints. One reviewer says a bottle listed well below its final bill came with corkage and VAT they were never told about, and another says crisps cost far more than the menu stated, with no one able to explain why. Both also mention a service charge on top.

“I have been to Cave Cuvee in 2023 it was really great. I went again 2 weeks ago and it felt very tired and forgotten about. Nothing had really been updated since last time and it needed a lick of paint and a bit of care. It still had Beaujolais 2024 pictures on the wall, the streamers over the door had been ripped off and the bathroom felt uncared for. The bin was overflowing and there was just random bottles of deodorant on the sink. The drinks were nice, but we were told there was no food. It needs to TLC to bring it back to its former glory.”

“Went on a Tuesday night because the bookings looked totally free. Suddenly they tell us downstairs is having an “event” and shove us upstairs, where there aren’t even proper tables, just shelves with random chairs. And even though it’s dark as hell up there, they can’t be bothered to give us a single candle. We ordered a bottle of wine they literally just twisted the cap, didn’t even open it properly, and dumped it on the table. What kind of half-assed service is that? Who hires staff who don’t know the absolute basics? And don’t even get me started on the crisps. Said £5, came out £7.80. When we asked, the staff had NO idea why. 🤦‍♀️ They provide zero service but still have the nerve to charge a 12.5% service fee?? Make it make sense lol It’s basically a takeaway wine shop pretending to be a bar. Sort your management out you can’t run a business like this. RIDICULOUS 😂😂”

“What a spot! Cocktails are amazing and the happy hour deal is fab! Really recommend the orange wine margarita and the vermouth soda. Also had the house white wine but it wasn’t very nice.”

“We came here expecting a nice evening, but the experience was really let down by the pricing. The wine we ordered was listed at £27, yet on the bill came to £47. When we asked why, we were told it included corkage and VAT, neither of which were mentioned. Not to mention that this is excluding the 12.5% service charge that was added to the overall bill. It all felt quite deceptive and left a bad taste. If there are extra fees, they should be made clear upfront. For a place that presents itself as a quality wine bar, this level of transparency should be a given. Very disappointing overall.”

“Kind of overhyped. The hot dog was really weird and it was like they just put a whole tube of salame in it with the casing still on and smothered it with sauce. The waffle fries were also really soggy. House white was alright. There was one person on the staff who was very nice and the other two gave really weird vibes and also took our plates away while there was still some food left on one of them.”
