About Ji The Chicken Shop
Ji The Chicken Shop is a fully halal Taiwanese restaurant at 66 Middlesex St in London, built around Taiwanese fried chicken. The kitchen cooks it as breast or thigh, and diners choose the seasoning when they order: chilli, garlic, curry, cheese or numbing chilli. A meal deal pairs the chicken with fries and a can of juice, and the fries come curry-seasoned or as plum sweet potato fries. The drinks side is a boba tea range that includes taro milk tea. Service runs from the counter. Customers order inside and wait for their number to be called, and the kitchen makes one order at a time. The restaurant opens Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
The caveats are about consistency. One regular says the chicken breasts come with too little seasoning, that requests for extra seasoning get ignored, and that the order ends up loaded with chilli and nearly inedible. Another reports a tiny chicken gizzard portion compared with other branches. One reviewer describes a staff member who got annoyed and threw over a plastic bag that cost extra, while others call the staff friendly. Reviewers also say the shop gets busy, with customers waiting outside to hear their number, and that orders are made one at a time. Several advise specifying flavours when ordering, and one suggests taking the offered ketchup or mayonnaise because the fries dry out.

“I rarely share unsatisfied comment but this time I decide to do that. I ate in this chain in Brighton and the food tasted super good, so I decided to buy it again in London. However, the staff here were really so impatient and rude. I was shopping so I needed a plastic bag to put the chicken into my bag. I didn’t know it should be charged, because when I was in this chain in Brighton they gave it to me for free. When I got my food and asked for a plastic bag, the staff got super annoyed and impatient, he blamed me for not telling him that I wanted the plastic bag at the start (the point is that he didn’t even ask me) and refused to give it to me because it costs too little and can’t be paid by card. I was shocked and literally froze there. And then he finally THREW the plastic bag to me and told me to fix it next time. The point is that I won’t come here anymore. Damn, how much would a plastic bag cost? Idk y I spent money to be blamed. I’m even Chinese, the staff were Chinese too, I really don’t understand why they decided to be so mean to their people😵💫”

“Not very busy, not overpriced, friendly, welcoming, fast preperation so less waiting but one order made at a time, so if someone ordered before you, you wait for their order to be handed so your order can be taken. Food is delicious and well cooked, just make sure you specify what flavours you want when ordering.”

“Very disappointing, especially for a chain restaurant. I’ve had the same chicken gizzard dish at other branches of the same chain, and the portion sizes were noticeably different. Unfortunately, the portion I received at this location was extremely small compared with what I’ve had elsewhere. Another guest at our table also ordered the same chicken gizzard, but the portion I was given was ridiculously small. I’m not complaining about sharing — the issue is simply how little I actually received. For a chain restaurant, you would expect some consistency between branches. Paying the same price for such a noticeably smaller portion is honestly frustrating. Definitely not the standard I’ve experienced at other branches.”

“The man who works there, while he is nice, he never ever puts enough seasoning on the chicken breasts. Ive ordered multiple times, and most of them, it tastes like there is no seasoning at all. Plus, there have been times i have asked for an extra of certain seasonings, but he will pretend like it was never said, and loads it up with a bunch of Chilli instead, so much so that the chicken is virtually inedible. My issues are only with the seasonings though, the chicken itself I have no issues with.”

“THE PLUM SWEET POTATO FRY IS SO GOOD! Slightly on the pricier side, but with the halal certification, totally understandable.”
