Quick info
About Black Cat café
Black Cat café is a vegan restaurant on the Green Link Walk in London, at 76A Clarence Rd. Volunteers run it, and its Supper Club evenings serve creative set dishes for those who want a sit-down meal after dark. The daytime menu centres on the Cat breakfast, which includes tofu scramble, with a smaller kitten breakfast for lighter appetites. Welsh rarebit is also listed, and pancakes appear at weekends only. The interior is spacious, with art on the walls, bookshelves, and a mix of banquette seating, sofas and mismatched tables. Basil mayo and hot sauce sit on the tables for adding to plates. Food takes a little time to prepare.

Customer Review Summary
The cat breakfast draws the most mentions, with reviewers praising its flavoursome tofu scramble and large portions. One adds that the smaller kitten breakfast would have suited them better, since they finished stuffed. Close behind is the Welsh rarebit, called tasty and moreish. Matcha earns repeated praise, and reviewers also single out the coffee milkshake, chai and filter coffee. One calls the Full English possibly the best they have had. A supper club night brought praise for a roasted cabbage with vanilla miso, a bread roll with sultanas, olives and caraway, and a pineapple upside down dessert. Staff are described as friendly and welcoming, and the space as relaxing and spacious, with art and bookshelves. One reviewer mentions clean toilets. The one caution is pace: one reviewer says preparation takes a bit of time, though another found the service super quick. One reviewer went two days running, having the Welsh rarebit for lunch and then the cat breakfast.

“Such a delicious breakfast! Really lovely relaxing atmosphere and open space. The service was super quick and the food was SO yum! Loved the cat breakfast - most flavoursome tofu scram I’ve had out before and I LOVED the Welsh rarebit, it was so tasty and moreish. Coffee milkshake slapped. Bonus points for the fun sauces for the table - basil mayo and hot sauce. Doing vegan food the justice it deserves!! Will be back !”

“Came with my mum for a lovely brunch and it was so good! The matchas were very tasty and the breakfast was perfectly filling! As someone who’s not vegan this is convincing me to eat more plant-based. Will deffo be coming back!”

“A lovely vegan community café on the Green Link Walk. My son had the pancakes (weekend only), and I had a black filter coffee. There is decent space inside, a couple of tables outside. Staff is nice and friendly. Coffee is tasty and the food was very good.”

“This might be the best Full English I've ever had. Every bit was delicious, and great portion size. The Chai Tea was also top notch.”

“Went 2 days on the trot. Had Welsh rarebit for lunch one day and the Cat breakfast the next. Was pretty quiet both days. Food was really tasty and staff were friendly.”
