About Little Duck The Picklery

Little Duck The Picklery is a modern European restaurant at 68 Dalston Ln in London, pairing an open-plan kitchen with a natural wine bar. Pickled vegetables give the place its name and run through a menu built around small plates for sharing, and the team suggests several plates per table. Among the pork dishes are pork cheeks and pork and beef meatballs with polenta, and grilled peaches also appear. Counter and bar seating faces the food preparation, so diners can watch the chefs at work. The restaurant is walk-in only. A wide wine list sits alongside the food.

Customer Review Summary

Shared small plates draw the most praise, with grilled peaches, pickled veg, and crab rice among the dishes reviewers name, and the lamb described as so soft it pulled away without a knife. Others single out pancetta with apple mustard, pork and beef meatballs with polenta, tender pork cheeks, and fish with crispy skin that tasted very fresh. Close behind is the open kitchen, where diners at the counter or bar enjoy watching the chefs work in a cozy, relaxed room with plenty of wine to choose from. Service is mostly called friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The caveats are specific. One reviewer said the waitress would not explain the menu beyond suggesting four or five plates, water was never refilled, and nobody asked about dessert, while the food felt fine but unmemorable for the cost. Others found a few dishes similar, wanted more desserts, or were told by a team member to get permission before photographing the kitchen. That unhappy diner asked for the service charge to be removed, and staff took it off along with the pickles.

“We had a leisurely lunch here today and was it ever a treat. Every aspect really. Eating at the bar provided a window into food prep by the talented chefs. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Recommendations were spot on. The atmosphere inside was so relaxed and enjoyable. We ordered Seabass crudo, the Honeymoon melon, Sardinian cured ham, the quail, the Potato agnolotti, and had the Salted milk panna cotta + cherries for dessert. Wow. What a meal. We will be back.”

“Great food in a beautifully designed space (I would happily live in the toilet). The service was excellent - attentive but not intrusive. A small but well conceived menu with delicious, high quality and interesting plates. A lovely evening.”

“We visited Little Duck The Picklery after hearing so much hype about it, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations. When we sat down, we asked our waitress if she could talk us through the menu and recommend any standout dishes. Rather than explaining the menu or highlighting any favourites, she simply told us that we should order 4–5 plates to share. The service throughout the meal was disappointing. Nobody checked in to see how our food was, our water was never refilled, and no one asked whether we’d like dessert. The restaurant was busy, but it certainly wasn’t packed to the point where these basic aspects of service should have been overlooked. It felt like we were largely forgotten once our food arrived. As for the food itself, it was fine, but nothing particularly memorable. Given the prices, we expected much more. The dishes simply didn’t justify the cost, especially when paired with such underwhelming service. For all the praise and hype this restaurant receives, the food was just okay. When we asked for the service charge to be removed, the staff did so without issue and also removed the pickles from the bill, which was appreciated.”

“Absolute 10/10 to everything that makes a dining experience sensational. Beautiful golden lights, warming the whole space. The most charming decor and layout. The bathroom was honestly like being in a spa. Staff were just the loveliest and most attentive with fantastic recommendations. The food was so good it genuinely felt like every bite was heaven. Pickled veg is outstanding, asparagus salad truly one of the best salads I’ve ever eaten, the crab rice was decadent and full of flavour, the lamb was so soft it pulled away without me using a knife. Their sous chef Louki who was cooking that evening is truly astounding.”
