About Gourmet Pizza Co
Gourmet Pizza Co is a pizza restaurant at 56 Upper Ground in London, serving pizzas and pastas for 30 years with a view of the river Thames. The pizzas have thin bases. Dough balls with garlic butter and dough sticks are also on the menu. Pasta dishes sit alongside the pizzas, including lasagna and penne pasta. The restaurant is open daily, so the Thames view is there any day of the week.

Customer Review Summary
Pizza draws the most praise, with reviewers singling out the pepperoni with hot honey, the American, thin crispy bases, and garlic butter dough balls. Close behind is the lasagna, which one repeat visitor calls not heavy and unchanged since 2019, though that same reviewer finds the pizza only average. Several describe friendly service, with one server in particular called attentive, and the river views and choice of indoor or outdoor seating also get mentions. The complaints are specific. One diner received a Caesar salad without dressing and dough sticks burnt from too long in the oven, and a takeaway customer describes penne with a handful of tiny prawns, no parmesan, and pizza thinner than a supermarket one. One calls the prices steep for the location, while another found them not overly expensive, and one describes the waitress as surly at first. Another reviewer, with theatre tickets and in a hurry, says the team took the order and brought the pizza quickly.

“An app I use found this place and counts calories from a photo of my plate. My salad had good protein and fit my daily needs, with a solid portion size. The riverside terrace is a nice spot for a quick lunch.”

“When we arrived, we said that we were in a hurry (having theater tickets). The team was very quick to take our order, bring the pizza (good pizza!) and everything. Thanks a lot.”

“I always come here just for the lasagna. It’s delicious and not heavy at all. All the ingredients are well balanced, and the taste has not changed since I first tried it in 2019. If you are a lasagna lover, it’s definitely worth visiting. As for the pizza, it is just average and acceptable.”

“The food was absolutely gorgeous, we were absolutely amazed. Even the pizza was unique in taste. So delicious! The service was excellent! Arnold our waiter was extremely friendly and there wasn't any exhaustive waiting time between meals, there were no mistakes, nothing was sent back. The atmosphere was warm, fun, relaxing and very friendly. By the end we were happy to strike up a conversation with the staff and even other customers. Arnold was wonderful, and he told us that sadly the Gourmet Pizza Co will be shutting down in the summer in order for apartments to be built in its place. My mother and aunt used to frequent this restaurant a couple decades ago, it has been around for what feels like forever and will be sad to lose such a beautiful piece of culture. Highly recommend! Before it closes permanently. Also, the view of the thames is worth it all. You have a choice of indoor or outdoor seats!”

“Being 100% honest I wasn’t expecting amazing things due to the location, I expected it to be expensive mediocre food but we were pleasantly surprised. Popped in here about 8.45pm and there were only a couple of other tables with people on so the atmosphere wasn’t brilliant. To start with I thought the waitress was a bit surly but she did come round eventually but the pizzas !!!! Absolutely beautiful, highly recommend the pepperoni with hot honey. And really not overly expensive for the location. The place was spotless. Would highly recommend”

“Gourmet Pizza Company has been serving authentic pizzas and pastas with amazing views of the river Thames for 30 years, so we know a thing or two about Italian style food. If you’re visiting The National Theatre, Festival Hall or the Oxo Tower then you must try Gourmet Pizza Company to ensure that you’ve enjoyed the best that the South Bank has to offer.”
