About The Rugged Bunch

The Rugged Bunch is a coffee shop on City Rd in London, run on a walk-in basis with no reservations taken. The menu runs to 24 dishes, with avocado toast and a cheese toastie among the recurring orders, alongside a roasted vegetable sandwich with hummus and porridge, which regulars sometimes ask to have made with a coconut milk swap. On the drinks side, filter coffee and americano sit alongside an oat chai latte. Outdoor seating extends the space beyond the counter, and dogs are welcome inside, making it workable for customers bringing a pet along. It opens daily, and takeaway is available for anyone eating off site rather than staying to sit down.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers consistently single out the toasted cheese sandwich, though a couple describe it as heavier than expected in taste, alongside the avocado toast served on crusty bread with fresh orange juice and porridge with a swap to coconut milk that regulars call comforting. The roasted vegetable sandwich with hummus and the oat chai latte also draw repeat praise, with one reviewer noting the well-known chains can't get chai right the way this spot does. Coffee and filter coffee come up often as reliably good, and several mention the staff, including the owner, as warm and quick, with dogs welcomed as regulars. The cozy, light-filled interior and outdoor seating get called out for lingering or working solo. Minor gripes surface once each: no hand towel in the toilet and a teapot only half filled with water. One reviewer who's visited over two years notes prices have crept up but still calls the portions generous.

From friendly staff to delicious toasties, this place has earned a spot in our go to local cafes The staff, especially the owner, are friendly and seem to love and appreciate what they do. Delivering a wholesome, comfy dining experience. You just know when you walk in you’ll be greeted with smiles, that service alone tells you how much they care Bring a fluffy friend with you and you’ll immediately become a VIP too! It’s not very often places like this bring me to write a review, mostly because everything these days feels standardised with all the large coffee chains taking over, it seems you get greeted by the same person - someone who’s just doing the job to get some money (I have nothing against this mindset by the way, it’s just doesn’t make you think about it the next day and following week!) The rugged bunch changes this, you can tell there’s heart in here, personality. Thank you 🙏

This cafe is amazing! Really delicious food, really good prices and very friendly staff🌻🎉🥰 the only improvement could be if they had Mr Farmer Otter 🦦 🥔 …

Great service, lovely little place. Great toasted cheese sandwich! Tip: nothing to dry my hands in the toilet! Teapot only half full of water! 😂 Great otherwise! Definitely recommend! …

Hello my loyal readers, today I wanna tell you about one of my absolute favorite spots in London🌺 I first discovered this cafe about two years ago cus I was always trying to discover new places to spend my breaks at in between the lectures. Now that I live nearby, I find myself coming in even more often and it still hasn’t disappointed me🐨 What really keeps me coming over are their porridges, roasted vegetable sandwich with hummus, and prices! 💰 generous portions, amazing quality and GREAT VALUE🐣 I do think the prices may have changed over the past couple of years, but that’s completely understandable🙈 The porridges are smooth and comforting. I always swap regular milk for coconut milk, which makes them even better 🥥 sandwiches are DELICIOUS today we also tried a sandwich with goats cheese and avocado on the side - really nice but the vegetable sandwich still remains my favorite… Today I also tried their filter coffee instead of an americano, and I loved it! Their coffee also never disappoints! ☕️ Alsoo I really appreciate their interior: it’s really cozy and full of natural light thanks to the large windows. On top of that, the service is always soo friendly and quick❤️ It still feels like a bit of a hidden gem for those who know the area, so part of me hopes it stays that way and keeps its special 🌝🌝

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
