About Intermission Coffee

Intermission Coffee is a specialty coffee shop on Heritage Ln in London, next to West Hampstead Overground station and opposite the tube station. The menu includes matcha, and the hibiscus matcha is whisked by hand by the barista. Pastries and patisserie sit alongside the drinks, including an almond croissant, and oat milk is available as a milk option. The shop also sells bags of beans and coffee supplies, and it opens daily. The owners put sustainability at the centre of the business. They say they work to confirm that everyone along their coffee supply chain is treated and paid fairly.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return for the coffee itself, with the Gesha pour over called exceptional and a mocha made with outstanding beans praised as smooth, with dark chocolate and fruity notes. A cortado and a flat white on an Ethiopian bean also drew praise. Close behind is the staff, described repeatedly as friendly, kind and up for a chat. The shop also sells beans, coffee supplies and pastries. A hand-whisked hibiscus matcha was ranked by one reviewer among the better ones in London. Limited seating, inside and out, comes up several times, and some take their drinks to go. Two reviewers fault the service. One says a barista acted as if doing a favor while chatting with others. Another says one staff member forgot their order six times, and also reports an upset stomach hours after noticing milk being sniffed, though they could not link the two. Others mention free oat milk substitution and an almond croissant filled with cream.

“I really don't like leaving negative reviews, but I keep having the same experience, and I want the owner to know. There is one particular staff member who has a strange attitude toward me. It's very odd, as I have never had an interaction with them outside of ordering coffee. I am always very polite to those who work in customer service because I understand how hard their work can be from my own experiences. On every occasion, I have ordered a coffee from said person, my order has been forgotten. I used to dismiss it as just an accident, but after it happened six times, I started to wonder if there's more to it. I feel so unwelcome when I visit Intermission, and I won't be returning. Which is a shame, because the coffee is delicious. On my most recent visit, I noticed the milk being sniffed before it was used in my coffee, which left me a little uncertain, by the same staff member. A few hours later, I unfortunately became unwell with an upset stomach. I can't say whether the two were connected, but it did add to my concerns.”

“Nice small cafe near west hampstead station! First time visiting and service was great, barista hand whisks the matcha and it tastes like a good quality! I got the hibiscus matcha and it was one of the better matchas i’ve had in London! Price of £5.90 is steep but drink was otherwise good!!”

“The coffee was good but the place was too small with limited seating and the service was not good as the barista acted like he was doing me a favor and was more focused on having a conversation with other people than doing his job and as I see in past reviews of this coffee shop this in not a one time. I will not be visiting this coffee shop again any time soon. The only good thing about this place is that coffee itself and there are much better options around London.”

“Super great little cafe!! It was a bit of a rush when I came but the staff were still so kind. They have a great selection of beans, coffee supplies, and even matcha. I got the mocha with the outstanding beans and it was a great combo! Definitely can taste the dark chocolate with the fruity/ coconut nodes. The whole drink is very smooth and delicious on your taste buds. Definitely come check with out if your in west Hampstead passing through or if you live around here. Don’t expect a place to seat inside but enjoy the delicious coffee”
