About Gino's Coffee Bar

Gino's Coffee Bar is a coffee shop in London at 18 Great Central St, opposite Marylebone station and a short walk across the zebra crossing. Breakfast is served all day, built around an English breakfast with Breakfast #1 and #2 as set options and chips and beans on the plate. Sandwiches are made to order, with a stocked fridge behind them, and the bacon sandwich is made quickly. A jacket potato with baked beans is also on the menu. The decor has a retro Italian feel, with seating at the window or on woven chairs. The shop is open Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary

The complaints carry real weight. Two reviewers say the wrong plate arrived, meatballs and rice served as spaghetti meatballs in one case and Breakfast #2 instead of #1 in the other, and both say the order-taker insisted they were mistaken rather than fixing it. One reviewer found the breakfast thin for the price, with one small bit of bacon and one egg while mushrooms and black pudding cost extra. Another describes pre-cooked, reheated bacon, and a longtime visitor says quality has dropped as prices climbed. One reviewer got a tea with far too much milk.

“Reviewer Alister B hit the nail on the head. My plate was also filled out with chips and beans but the worst part is I didn’t order either of them. I ordered Breakfast #1 and they brought #2. When I complained, the order-taker said he was ‘100% certain I ordered #2.’ And this after he had brought me milk tea and had to change it because I ordered it black. Twenty years ago, Mario would have taken back the plate (even if he was 100% certain I was wrong) and delivered exactly what I had ordered. And he would have done it with a song. I’m 100% certain of two things. One: I’m not going back. Two: the order-taker won’t last long in that job.”

“Used to be a great place. Food quality has now gone down and prices have gone through the roof. A shame.”

“It's a great place to get a coffee and panini before heading on a train journey from Marylebone just on the side of the street.”

“Been several times and enjoy the food and experience. I thought to my self, “it’s been a few times, I’ll leave them a 5 star review while I’m waiting for the train” but they spoilt it, over something annoyingly simple. I ordered Meatballs and rice on Thursday, but was presented with Spaghetti Meatballs. I highlighted the error but told I was wrong by both the person I ordered from (owner I think) and the person that brought my food out (his wife/ co-owner maybe). I know what I ordered, was looking forward to and already paid for it. I had also ordered a water but had to get up and ask for it again, after waiting for my food to arrive. I’d eaten pasta 2 days in a row but I didn’t want an argument/to be “one of those customers”, so I ate my food like a good boy. I even got up (they weren’t busy) and ordered a tea and small cake afterwards. They had an opportunity to reset there but I got a tea with far too much milk. I’m so disappointed because I really liked the place and was planning on making it a regular stop off but their response to them making a mistake is; tell the customer they’re wrong, make no attempt to improve service and make me feel awkward. I mean, some customers would have sent the food back and said “bring me what I ordered/paid for please”, I dropped it and just ate what I was given, as I realised them correcting their mistake would cost them money. When I can, I prefer to give my custom to small businesses just like this because it’s usually a better experience and my money goes to real people… but I feel uncomfortable about going back, all because of a simple, forgivable mistake they handled badly.”

“I’m in the area most weeks and usually annually I visit to see whether things have improved and always leave underwhelmed. The set menu comes with tea, but the charged £2.20 extra for coffee - which admittedly was very good. The breakfast was underwhelming for the price - £13 - one small bit of bacon, one egg and things like mushrooms, black pudding were extra. The plate was filled out with chips and beans, so it was filling at least. I’ll come back in a year and see if things have changed.”
