Quick info
About Tianjin Dumpling
Dumplings are made to order at Tianjin Dumpling, a Chinese takeaway counter in a Peckham food court at Unit 10, where the skins are made the same day and the parcels are assembled in front of customers. The menu runs from xiao long bao to chive dumplings in pork and beef versions, with noodle dishes such as zha jiang mian served alongside, and soup dumplings sometimes limited to a single type on the day. Pork buns include a large pan-fried version. There is no booking, so customers order at the till, take a seat, and wait for a buzzer to signal that food is ready to collect. The team speaks Mandarin. Canned drinks and bagged green tea round out the order. The counter trades Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
Fresh dumplings made to order are the draw, with the xiaolongbao and soup dumplings named most often and several reviewers calling out skin rolled and cooked the same day as the reason they taste so tender. Close behind are the chicken dumplings, which two reviewers single out above everything else, and the oversized pork bun, one visitor's substitute for the siopao they were craving. Others mention pork and chive dumplings, prawn and chicken and spring onion dumplings, pan fried buns and zha jiang mein. The praise is not unanimous. Two reviewers found fillings bland, describing mushy pork mince with no seasoning or aromatics and beef and chive dumplings with no detectable chives, and the noodles come up twice as thin on topping. Limited availability recurs, with one diner told most of the small menu was off and another finding only one xiaolongbao that day. One account describes blunt, aggressive treatment at the till, a long wait in an empty room and dumplings that fell apart on lifting.

“Authentic taste! It brings me back to Asia once I had one bite of the dumpling; truly amazing flavor. I really appreciate that they made the dumpling skin on the same day and cooked it fresh, which is why it tastes so tender. I will definitely come back.”

“In a food court. Xialongbao skin thin but inside just cheap mushy pork mince- no seasoning or aromatics detected. Beef and chive dumplings were packed and they were a good size, but no detectable chives, very dense and again no seasoning or aromatics detected. Just boring! Disappointed.”

“We tried the Chicken & Spring onion dumplings, the huge pork bun, and the Prawn dumplings - they were all delicious and so flavourful! And good value for money when they make it right in front of you! Would recommend!”

“I’ve eaten more dumplings in my life than I’ve consumed water molecules and yet, the chicken dumplings from this place are by far the most exquisite, beautifully assembled, and unbelievably delicious creation I’ve ever experienced. This is the food that makes you sad as you near the last bite. It’s a work of art. A sign from God. It's undeniably the greatest gift ever bestowed upon humankind.”

“Went there for lunch, since I’ve heard many good things about this place. There was only one type xiaolongbao available that day, and I ordered the noodle. The xiaolongbao is nice, but noodle is lacking, there is barely any topping. I would not recommend to travel here just for the dumplings…”
