About Oriental Dragon
Oriental Dragon is a Chinese restaurant at 100 Cleveland St in London, built around a Northeastern (Dongbei) menu with Sichuan-style dishes alongside. The kitchen is open plan, so dishes are stir-fried within view of the tables. Guo Bao Rou is the dish to start with, and cold plates such as cold liangpi sit next to stir-fried seafood like whelk. Stewed dishes in the Northeastern style and stir-fried greens with garlic round out the choices for a shared table. The restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to authentic Sichuan and Northeastern dishes, with the spicy chicken in chili oil and the spicy beef singled out as tender and bold without being overwhelmingly spicy. Close behind is the Guo Bao Rou, described as crispy outside and tender inside, alongside the crispy sweet and sour chicken. Cold dishes such as the liangpi, spicy shredded potato salad and crystal wide noodle salad draw praise as fresh and flavourful. Stir-fried water spinach, Chinese greens with garlic, whelk and clams also come up as fresh and well cooked. Generous portions and reasonable prices recur across the reviews, and several describe friendly service and a warm atmosphere. The one reservation comes from a diner who found the Guo Bao Rou a bit on the sweet side that day. Some note food arriving quickly, with dishes stir-fried in an open kitchen right behind the table, and one Northeastern diner said the stewed dishes reminded them of home.

“Had a wonderful dining experience here! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The crispy sweet and sour chicken was perfectly cooked with a delicious balance of sweetness and tanginess, and the vegetables stayed crisp and vibrant. The spicy chicken in chili oil was incredibly tender and packed with authentic Sichuan flavor without being overwhelmingly spicy. The stir-fried Chinese greens with garlic were fresh, simple, and complemented the other dishes perfectly. The portions were generous, making it great value for money. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Everything arrived quickly, and you could tell great care was taken with each dish. This is definitely a place I would happily return to whenever I’m craving authentic Chinese food. Highly recommended for anyone looking for delicious food, excellent service, and a comfortable dining experience!”

“Really enjoyed our meal here. The spicy beef was incredibly tender and full of flavour without being overwhelmingly spicy. The stir-fried whelk was fresh with a nice crunchy texture and paired perfectly with the vegetables. Portions were large, prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was relaxed. One of the better Chinese restaurants I’ve visited, and I’ll definitely be back.”

“My friend and I were craving traditional Northern East Chinese food today, and this restaurant delivered everything we hoped for. They are our local canteen, but still love it. The spicy shredded potato salad and crystal wide noodle salad were absolutely spot on: fresh, cold, and full of that Northeast flavour we grew up with. The highlight of the night was the Guo Bao Rou (锅包肉). Perfectly crispy on the outside, tender inside, with a glossy sweet tangy sauce that tasted exactly like home. Althought, we feel it is a bit on the sweet side today. We left completely satisfied. If you’re looking for authentic Dongbei dishes, this place is a gem.”

“This is an excellent Chinese restaurant. The dishes are really authentic and super tasty. We were here on the quiet Sunday afternoon and the the vibe was not bad at all. The portion size was generous and dishes were done in an open plan kitchen. Will definitely come back to visit more, a hidden gem around UCL.”

“Absolutely authentic Sichuan cuisine! The flavors are rich, bold, and perfectly balanced. Every dish was packed with the classic spicy and numbing taste that makes Sichuan food so special. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a true Sichuan dining experience.”
