Quick info
About LIU Xiaomian Marylebone
Downstairs beneath The Jackalope pub, LIU Xiaomian Marylebone is a Chinese noodle restaurant in London, off a side street in Marylebone. Every bowl comes with a choice of five spice levels, from none to very spicy, and the spice can be served on the side. The menu includes Spicy Beef wheat noodles, Chongqing spicy noodles with minced pork and wontons in soup. A vegan bowl of chickpeas on potato starch noodles is also on offer. Diners order and collect food at the counter or hatch, with minimal table service. Seating is limited, and the room gets busy at peak times. Dogs are welcome. There is no air conditioning downstairs, and drinks are served in the pub upstairs.

Customer Review Summary
Spicy beef wheat noodles draw the most praise, described as tender and fragrant, with a broth reviewers call rich and well balanced. Close behind are the pork mince hot and sour glass noodles, the Chongqing spicy noodles with mince that one diner calls chewy and numbing, and the wontons, while the vegan and chickpea noodle bowls earn repeat orders. Reviewers like choosing a spice level or having it on the side, though one finds the heat milder than advertised and two suggest going hotter. Complaints centre on the basement setup: ordering at the hatch, staff who walk past without seating anyone, a queue at busy times and tables that turn over fast, so a few suggest booking ahead. One reviewer found a hair in a fried egg and felt the flavours were better in 2025, another reports food poisoning, and one notes there is no air conditioning downstairs during a heatwave. One diner suggests grabbing a drink in the pub upstairs afterwards.

“Second time visiting, and once again, it didn't disappoint! This hidden gem is tucked away beneath the Jackalope pub. Seating is limited during peak hours, but it's absolutely worth the wait. We visited for lunch and were seated straight away. We ordered the Xiaomian vegan noodles with chickpeas and the Spicy Beef noodles. This was my second time ordering the vegan option, and just like the first visit, I finished wishing I'd ordered another bowl to take away! The broth is rich and full of depth, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and the fresh vegetables add both texture and flavour, with just the right amount of crunch. I opted for the mild spice level, which gave the dish a gentle warmth without overpowering the other flavours. The aroma from the Spicy Beef bowl was incredible. The fragrant spices hit you before the dish even reaches the table, and it looked every bit as delicious as it smelled. If you're looking for authentic, comforting noodle dishes, this tucked-away noodle bar is an absolute must-visit. I'll definitely be back for a third visit!”

“Tasty and affordable noodles. Book ahead, it’s busy! And be aware the tables turn over fast-don’t be late or plan to linger. Minimal service-you order at the hatch-but everyone was friendly :) Grab a drink in the pub upstairs and hang out there afterwards.”

“I’ve been to Liu Xiaomian inside the jackalope a few times during the course of the year. In 2025 the flavors were much better sadly, much more hearty and savory. Additionally, I was saddened to find a hair in my partners fried egg :( Overall, gets the job done - still good, but not as good. (& the hair part takes a star off)”

“This is a firm favourite now — it’s very lowkey but I also love that vibe especially for Chinese/Asian food. It really reminded me of being in Hong Kong a bit and felt quite authentic. And the food is amazing. I got the pork mince hot and sour glass noodles and my partner got the spicy beef wheat noodles. Standouts: glass noodles are unreal, I could eat them all day every day, the hot and sour soup is just what I had been craving and was so well balanced, and the spicy beef was sooo tender it melted in your mouth. I really wish I’d ordered more but now I guess I just have to visit again. Such a last minute discovery but I’ve been craving the food for days afterwards. Also, you can choose spice level/to have the spice on the side which is nice. Very cool, love it! Highly recommend.”
