About Golden Valley
Payment at Golden Valley is cash only, and a fee-free ATM sits a block up on Brecknock Road outside the post office, so an order can be settled without a card. The Chinese takeaway works from 177 York Way in London, running mainly as a collection counter, though it is possible to eat in. Duck carries through the menu, served as a roast with vegetables and as pancakes to start, while salt and pepper cooking recurs across ribs and wings. Chicken chow mein comes with noodles, beansprouts and onion, and rice arrives boiled, egg fried or salt and pepper. There is no booking, so orders are placed at the counter on arrival, and the food is packed for eating at home. The kitchen runs Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays. Bottled and canned soft drinks are sold alongside the food.

Customer Review Summary
Duck runs through much of the praise: one diner singles out the roast duck with vegetables and plans to return for the duck pancake starter, another remembers duck pancakes on a late evening visit, and a third calls duck and pork with boiled rice a serious plateful. Close behind come the salt and pepper dishes, ribs with meat falling off the bone, wings and salt and pepper rice, alongside crispy chilli beef, beef in black bean sauce, grilled dumplings and a hot and sour soup one calls the best they have had. Several describe the cooking as fresh and not greasy, and one ranks the chicken chow mein among their favourites. Two are unconvinced: one found the sweet and sour sauce runny like flavoured water and describes taste declining as prices rose, while another was upset a chow mein arrived with no vegetables beyond beansprouts. Reviewers repeatedly note it is cash only, one pointing out a fee free ATM a block away. Free prawn crackers and, for one shaken customer, free food and words of comfort also come up.

“YUM!!!! Me and my partner live closer to Tufnell so we walked around 20 minutes to get here and it was so worth it! The prices are SO GOOD make sure you bring cash!!! Our total was around £27~ and we ate in. We got Sesame Prawn Toast + Chicken Chow Mein + Roast Duck with Vegetables + Egg Fried Rice + Diet Coke Sesame Prawn Toast - this is something i love deeply and dearly and was very pleased by the portion size! It was 6 nice square fat slices of it. Not too greasy/oily and incredibly yum. A major step up from the usual triangle prawn toast i get at other places. Chicken Chow Mein - this was really nice and flavourful. Was stir fried with white onions, green spring onions, bean sprouts and chicken. The noodles had a nice texture (not overly soft or mushy) and the onions were softened but retained a nice flavour. The spring onion was really nice and fresh/bright. Again this dish was not overly salty/greasy (I used to buy CCM from Panda's Kitchen and they often made it salty). Really yummy :) I've only ever ordered CCM from most British-Chinese takeaways I've visited and this one is top 3. Very glad to have found a place somewhat nearby that sells a CCM that i like. My partner ate the Egg Fried Rice and the Duck with Veg. Upon asking he has said "It was good" and when asked if he would return again with me he said "Yup" he is not a man of very many words but he was clearly very satisfied after his meal I tried a piece of his duck and it was really nice! Next time we come here were going to see if we can get some crispy duck or the duck pancake starter. The lady at the counter was really nice and polite and I saw how friendly she was to locals and regulars. Very efficient and made no mistakes with her orders and have correct change. She also threw in prawn crackers for free which was nice :D They have a nice selection of drinks to buy ranging from Coke, Diet Coke, Tango, 7up, Old Jamaica and some others I can't remember off the top of my head. Incredibly wide variety menu.”

“I mean how good is this Chinese takeaway. I need this place in my life. The duck and pork with boiled rice is some meal for under £9. Service friendly and quite rapid.”

“a much delayed review: came here late in the evening a few months ago craving some chinese food. ordered the duck pancakes and a few bowls of sweetcorn soup. everything was delicious for very good value! my friend was admittedly a little drunk that night, and started getting a little sentimental/emotional. i apologised for any disruption caused and was met instead by a display of compassion from the shop owners. they gave us some free food and offered words of comfort. this might've been an impromptu meal at an unassuming chinese takeaway but ended up being a very memorable, touching experience, and a reminder of humanity's compassion. thank you for your kindness. please come and support their business.”

“First time ordering, got a chicken chow mein and asked for no onions. It came with beansprouts noodles and chicken ?? How is that a chow mein where's the vegetables, I've never in my life ordered a chow mein and had zero veg, I'm upset I paid nearly £8 for basic noodles”
