About The Lord Stanley

The Lord Stanley is a pub in London at 51 Camden Park Rd, with a tiled exterior and a rear beer garden that includes a petanque area for playing a round. Inside, wooden floors sit beneath a high ceiling, and a large bar stands in the middle of the room. The windows are large and let in natural light. The menu is written on a chalkboard and updates regularly. Pizzas, an ink risotto and haddock are among the dishes to order, and the kitchen also sends out small plates. Dogs are welcome at the pub.

Customer Review Summary

Pizzas are the draw reviewers return to most, described as blistered, authentic and fantastic, with unique toppings and a margarita pizza called great and affordable. Close behind are the ink risotto, which one diner liked enough to order a second round, and the haddock, plus small plates and a chalkboard menu reviewers say updates regularly. The courtyard and beer garden, along with street-side benches, get repeated praise, and the crowd is described as busy, local and friendly, with welcoming staff. Not everyone is as warm. One reviewer calls the menu otherwise ordinary, citing the Volcanic Chilli Olives, and says the refurbishment put the same battered tables and chairs back, with lower-quality wall cladding. Another finds it not the coziest, with a high ceiling, an oversized bar in the middle and amplified noise. One describes the service as odd and the atmosphere as lacking a bit of life. When an order was mixed up, staff fixed it right away.

“Good old pub with amazing food (Try the haddock it’s amazing!), pizzas are also really good! Staff is very welcoming, all that I wanted and missed from England as a tourist. Cheers from France 🇫🇷🫶🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿”

“Firstly, this is my favourite pub. Like your bed is your favourite bed. It isn’t perfect, but it’s yours and you keep coming back. That’s how I feel about The Stanley. It’s a friendly pub with a great community buzz and decent, respectful punters from all walks of life. If you dropped your phone, someone would probably hand it back to you or leave it behind the bar. What follows sounds quite critical, but it genuinely comes from a good place. Other than the pizzas and steaks, there’s very little that makes you think, “I really fancy that.” Most of the menu feels like something you could make at home. Some dishes just make you think, “Really?” Case in point: Volcanic Chilli Olives. The refurbishment also feels like a missed opportunity. Everything was replaced… only to look exactly the same. As someone who enjoys woodworking, I noticed the new wall cladding is actually a lower-quality finish than what was there before. Most people won’t notice, but it stood out to me. After weeks of refurbishment, the same old battered tables and chairs went straight back in. They immediately make the place feel more tired than it should. The stairwell to the toilets deserves some attention too, while the beer garden would be transformed with decent paving and a few large planters. The back corner also feels like a wasted opportunity. It’s crying out for either a large family table or a cosy sofa area to give the pub a feature space rather than just another row of tables. Despite all that, I genuinely love this place. It’s always busy, has a brilliant atmosphere and attracts a great crowd. I just think the refurbishment played it a little too safe. I even had a bit of fun creating some AI concepts of the sort of direction I think the pub could have taken not because I think it should become trendy, but because I think it could have felt warmer and cosier while still keeping everything that makes The Stanley what it is.”

“The food was lovely, the service just odd. They seem to hire offbeat staff. Very indie feel but kinda oddballs. Attracts the typical indie N London crowd and quite gay friendly it seemed. Safe atmosphere but lacks a bit of life.”

“Wow this place is incredible. The chef / food they offer is amazing. The small plates are all amazing. The mains I didn’t try apart from the pizza which had Great unique toppings. Nice staff and quick service. Nice crowd.”

“A fantastic neighborhood pub that seems to always have a sizable crowd of locals enjoying the suds, food, and ambiance of the neighborhood crowd. Made three visits during my stay in the neighborhood. The pizzas were all fantastic - as was all other food eaten by myself and my fellow visitors.”
