  “Had the most delicious roast at Knowles. Proper homemade food with real gravy. The side of the Yorkshire puddings were amazing and they were so light! We were served by Grace who was very attentive and welcoming. Will definitely be back! Thank you!”

  “🚇 West Norwood 🍺 £5.60 Notting Helles Knowles of Norwood is located in the heart of West Norwood in South London. The nearest station is West Norwood. This venue opened in November 2015 under the management of Antic Pubs. The building was previously a hardware shop. After about five years under Antic, operation transferred to @portobellopubsandbars This is a large, spacious venue with a modern, industrial-chic feel. The servery is located on the back wall, with an open kitchen to the right. The bar area has a variety of sections, each with its own individual feel. Towards the rear of the bar is a dartboard, and beyond that is an intimate pool room. At the back, there is a good-sized beer garden. The decor mixes contemporary and traditional elements, creating a comfortable and stylish environment in which to spend time. The beer line-up was solid and offered a mix of well-known brands and a range of Portobello’s own-brewed beers, including cask ales. I decided on a Notting Helles; my pint hit the spot, price point was below average. The food menu features small plates and pub classics. Fish and chips cost £17.50, and roasts are available on Sundays and receive rave reviews. I arrived just after 12 pm on a chilly Saturday lunchtime in November. The place was fairly quiet, with a couple of solo imbibers and a young family in for a spot of lunch. The atmosphere was relaxed, with a laid-back soundtrack playing in the background. The service was welcoming, and the team member was courteous. The pub hosts a weekly Quiz Night on a Wednesday. So, is Knowles of Norwood a pub? Well, I’m not sure it is — but that doesn’t matter. What it is is a social hub that has elements of a pub, offering a great range of beers and a food menu that is popular with the local community. It feels very comfortable and calm here, and there’s a bit of something for everyone. I enjoyed my time here, maybe not one for the traditionalist— but worth popping in if you’re in the area. 📅 15th November 2025”

  “Knowles of Norwood is a fantastic spot. From the moment you walk in, the staff are welcoming, attentive, and genuinely friendly. The food menu is excellent, paired with an outstanding selection of drinks - especially the beers. A great bonus is the pool table and dartboard at the back, which adds to the relaxed and fun atmosphere. Highly recommended.”

  “Visited on Sunday. Lovely pub with what looked like a good roast dinner… I never ate. Plenty of seating & range of low/high tables. Menu looked good. Free WiFi Generally clean & staff were busy yet will welcoming & friendly, service with a smile! Recommend booking if visiting on Sunday!”

  “1st Time visit for lunch and it was filled with Mums and Babies with live entertainment making it very busy!!! The beer garden was nice and tucked away at the back and very calm and chilled with the sun beating down - made a nice spontaneous eat out moment!! Fish and Chips was not on the menu so ask at the bar/till if its available as I highly recommend this dish… :) 100 percent cooked to perfection served with mushy peas and tartar sauce! The pancakes would have been better served with the sauce in a separate small bowl/dish, was way too much and overwhelmed, over flowed and over soaked the liccle pancakes!! Staff were excellent and forth coming with what was available on the menu considering it was such a busy time - much appreciated!! Worth the wait for the food! The chef has an amazing singing voice and all staff seem cheerful and helpful! Calm atmosphere overall and also a great space for Mums Events and Kids parties - something for everyone! Will certainly be back!!”

  “We were drawn by the great reviews for the Sunday roast and the Kids Table. The Kids Table was a hit with our kids (4 & 7 y/o), as expected. However, we had mixed feelings about the Sunday roast. The beef was excellent, offering three generous slices, surpassing other places. Unfortunately, the pork fell short, needing more cooking time, and the crackling was missing, requiring a separate request. Notably, for our three orders of pork roast, the crackling was served on a single plate for sharing, which wasn't ideal. The Yorkshire puddings were disappointing, being doughy rather than airy. On the plus side, the pub's atmosphere is welcoming with ample space, and finding free parking on Sunday across the street is a bonus. The beer selection is commendable too. While the beef roast is a standout, the drawbacks make a return visit unlikely for us due to the travel involved.”

  “⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars baby! Lovely food, great interior design, staff are really friendly. I’d recommend all the food but the cheeseburger was banging! Smashed patties with the right mix of ingredients. I traveled an hour to come here while meeting a client.”
