About The Railway

The Railway is a traditional Victorian pub on the corner of 2 Greyhound Ln in London, just over the road from Streatham Common Station. The building has a large front bar and a back room, with a walled back garden behind. That garden hosts live music in summer, and a quiz night is a regular event. An all-day menu changes regularly and includes starters and sharing plates like calamari and a sausage with black pudding roll. Roast dinners and carvery are served on Sundays only. Ordering is self-service, either at the bar or through a QR code on the table. The pub is open daily, and a Tea Room on the premises is let out for events.

Customer Review Summary

Food is what most reviewers return to, with the croquettes, calamari, buffalo wings, tacos and a steak with well seasoned chips all singled out, and the pigs in blankets, bacon burger and a sausage with black pudding roll also getting praise. Several describe a cosy pub with a back garden, a good beer selection, quiz night and live music, and one calls it pet friendly. One reviewer says the bar staff were great and another had the best double espresso locally. The complaints are specific. One Sunday lunch brought lukewarm roast dinners and an incinerated pork joint, with staff described as stressed and disinterested. Another found the calamari frozen and tasteless, disliked the beef croquettes, and was surprised by unmarked spice in the mango chicken wings. A third was refused the displayed two for twelve cocktail deal at 8.30pm because the chalkboard said 4 to 8pm. During a World Cup match, one reviewer praised management for admitting only as many people as there were seats, and chose to book for the final.

“I was very impressed that on the day England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 vs Argentina World Cup that you only allowed people the capacity of your seats and closed the door so crowd don’t come standing around inside. That was very good of your management and should keep that up. It has made me to book for the final as I want to see a well organised atmosphere and good service to those customers inside.”

“In love with my local pub! Yummy food and nice atmosphere. Live music and screens during World Cup Season. Pet friendly, a must for us.”

“First time visit, pub is nice cosy decent clients! Staff ok, nothing exceptional, self service, go to bar order food or from qr code on table. Went initially for a roast dinner/carvery but only serve on Sundays, ended up having food from the starter selection. Beef crochets type of food did not like, calamari was not great frozen no taste, and mango chicken wings were spicy hot but no mentioning off this on menu. I didn't enjoy the food, at all, waste of money. For some drinks in the beer garden is ok.”
  • Anita Leathem
“Arrived at The Railway really excited to try the food! I can say happily it did not disappoint. We shared some starters which were so tasty but the Tacos were incredible! Followed by a perfectly cooked steak and well seasoned chips. The red wine we had ( Pinot noir) was lovely too!”

“A good corner pub, just over the road from the station with a good beer selection (Inc Orbit, Pretty Decent), and an all day menu with good starters and mains. I'll definitely be back!”
